Whistle 107, Butler

Does anyone know if this station is back on the air? This is the former WPRN-FM licensed to Lisman in Choctaw County. It was just sold by Joy Communications (who left it silent the whole time, I think) to a brand new company called Leap of Faith (whose owner appears to be a Seventh Day Aventist minister in Butler). There's a website, but the audio links to a LPFM in Florida that's playing jazz.

It appears the station was sold for just $10 and has been re-converted back to commercial operation. It's a class A that barely makes it out of Choctaw County.

The station isn't on the air. I spoke with the potential new owner... sounded like a knowledgeable guy that will run the station the right way. It may take a while before it is back on though... not sure what is left equipment-wise.

I think the former owner had some health issues. He wanted to sell the station to someone who would continue with a religious format.

Thanks for the update, guys. I found it odd that they have a website already constructed, but then was shown another website that looks basically the same, and it turns out the WHOIS data for Whistle matches that of the Jazz station that comes through the stream. Guess they're connected somehow? The LPFM is one of two owned by Randy Bennett, who I believe had a few run ins with the FCC in Florida over translator issues.

Interesting how small a world radio broadcasting can be sometimes. :)

$10?!?!? I could've bought that! But then again, look how much would need to be reinvested into the station.

looks like there are some recently filed documents on fcc.gov. is the station back on the air yet?

Still off. I was within 20 miles of Butler, Ala earlier this week and heard nothing.
