Whistling in Songs

This has caught my attention as I was listening and heard Patience by Guns N Roses and then shortly thereafter, Billy Currington's People are Crazy. Both songs feature some whistling. GNR moreso. I also recall Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding has some too. What are some others?

Let's keep it to radio hits, please. I am interested in if there are any reasons artists would include whistling, is there some appeal to it? I remember hearing that songs that have a lot of yeah's in it tend to be more successful on the charts. Is there something like this to whistling?

Don Robertson - The Happy Whistler
Whistlin' Jack Smith -I was Kaiser Bill's Batman
New Vaudville Band - Winchester Cathedral
Guy Mitchell Singin' the Blues
Guy Mitchell - Heartaches by the Number
Mitch Miller - Briddge on the River Quai Theme
Herb Alpert - Acapulco 1922

Thinking.................................

Save Your Heart For Me-Gary Lewis & The Playboys
Love Letters In The Sand-Pat Boone
Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey-Paul McCartney & Wings

Isn't there a bit of whistlin' at the very end of Pat Benetar's "We Belong" ? Ray Conniff did the whistling on the 1950's Guy Mitchell and Marty Robbins tunes.

A handful of "country" songs include whistling.

Marty Robbins - Story of My Life
Dan Seals - Everything that Glitters

Dream A Little Dream of Me - Cass Elliott
Dock of The Bay - Otis Redding
The Bridge On The River Kwai: The Colonel Bogey March

So, is there anything to it? Or is it just something that sounded good at the time? Thanks for all the additions too!

Juelz Santana "There It Go (The Whistle Song)" Hip Hop hit from a few years ago
Frankie Knuckles "The Whistle Song" A mid-90's club hit...

and a current...

3Oh3 "Starstrukk"

Claire - Gilbert O'Sullivan
Jungle Love - The Steve Miller Band

Ted Weems Big Band of the 1930's/40's used Elmo Tanner who had a great whistle in "Heartaches" and "Mickey". Just a side note, Perry Como, in his early years, sang with Ted Weems' Orchestra.
