Dummy me! How could I have forgotten Daydream? So I suppose, CT, that it's no surprise that I didn't immediately think of Short Shorts either. It reached #3 in 1958 and begins with a whistle---a human-made whistle. Here are the Royal Teens on tv pretending to sing and play instruments while the 45-rpm record plays:

Roger Miller's Whistle Stop was used in Disney's 1967 animated Robin Hood film. The tune was stolen for that god-awful (and misspelled) Hamsterdance recording. Gak! Here is Roger Miller---dang him:

The best Roger Miller song ever was one he never recorded or even published. He was on TNN's Nashville Now years ago and told Ralph Emery about a song he'd written but never worked up the courage to bring it to his publisher. The title was "If I Can't Be Your Number One, then Number Two on You!"

Brenda Lee once sang "Am I fool #1...or fool #2"---but I don't think the phrases in Roger's song had quite the same connotation. In fact I'm certain. Here are three more "whistling" songs:

Believe it or not, the whistling solos on "Singing The Blues," "Heartaches By The Number," and probably other Columbia hits of the 1950's were performed by Ray Conniff!

Roger Whittaker had a Euro-hit with "The Mexican Whistler," no doubt it's on one of his albums.

Another SMB song, "The Joker," features the "wolf whistle" played on electric guitar. Are there any songs on which that well-known two-note whistle is actually whistled?

"Cover of the Rolling Stone" (by Dr. Hook, of course) also has wolf whistle played on guitar.
