White House presser

A surprise presidential statement is about to be made from the White House. It's on national security: Blitzer says it's not Libya.

Not sure how the networks will scramble to cover it. Could be a hard night for fans of the Sunday primetime shows, especially if they are going to be blown to smithereens by what seems to be HUGE news.

bin Laden is dead and in the possession of US military. Obama to speak in minutes.

Threat level will go up in the near-term.

Hopefully, it will go down quickly.

Well, with the news of Osama Bin Laden now dead, this will be a major conversation piece for the media in general. I expect a lot of analysis and spinning in the days, weeks, months and years to come.

In mid-March, immediately after the Japan quake, I think it was the EVP of CNN International who said that we'd already had a year's worth of international news. I guess make that more like two years' worth now.

Don't expect to see your primetime shows for the remainder of the night if you live out West. The networks are going to be making some special exemptions to ensure that everything from The Amazing Race to Desperate Housewives is aired in its entirety. I can see networks saying "preempt the Monday soaps, we're reairing primetime in its entirety" or offering overnight reair permission.
