White House wants new copyright law crackdown on illegal streaming.

The white house can take their coppyright crackdown and MUSIC FIRST and shove it where the sun dont shine. Not only do I support Free Radio on the internet.. Freedom of Speech,, but I also support Free p2p sharing,, How else am I supposed to get my music,, pay 15 to 20 bucks for a cd with one good song...HA....

Wire Tapping internet streamers like we are any sort of danger to society,, it isnt like we are using the FM spectrum and causing interference. I supposed if this kicks into affect I could go to live 365 again,, but they suck compared to shoutcast and icecast. I cant afford to pay for every song I play,, I am not clear channel... Stick it to the Performance tax.

Just so you know,, my stream is legal even though I dont pay royalties, cause I play INDIE artists on one stream with Dance Music MIX SHOWS,, I have permission from the DJs,, songs are not played in the entirety.. My other stream plays alternate and live versions of Oldies from the 50s through early 90s.

If the RIAA had their way the Ice Cream Man would be paying royalties for the songs coming out of the PA on his Tasty freeze Truck....

And lets be honest here are you going to put thousands and thousands of people in jail because they played music on the Internet without paying royalties... That makes even less sense than filling up our jails with pot smokers....

Our prison system is busting at the seams as it it jailing offenders isn't an option and lets be honest here you can't squeeze blood from a turnip, the best you can hope for it to get them off the air and possibly impound their equipment, and with many offshore servers more than happy to make their services available it is a problem that isn't going to go away any time soon.

Speaking of ice cream trucks.Last year. In my area there was a ice cream truck playing a midi version of the "Music Box Dancer" from Frank Mills.
this year he is play some other tune.I geuss he got a complaint.

If you want to have some fun and mess with the minds of your congressmen, try out this logic on them.

One of the big compaints by conservatives about liberals is that liberals support "WEALTH RE-DISTRIBUTION".

Ask your congresman why he supports wealth re-distribution in the form of patents and copyrights.

Now, before everybody gets their panties in a wad over all this, you cannot have a civilization that works in this day and age if their is not some recognition of "Intellectual Property". If I am the inventor of something or the creator of something or the composer of something, it really belongs to ME. If you com and take what is mine without coming to terms with me over what I should be paid for you to use my property, then you are just like the thug from the next neighborhood who comes into your house while you are at work and takes your stereo, your computer and your jewelry. That's a crime. If the thug likes your jewelry, let him/her come while your are home, make you an offer on which both of you can agree, shake hands and everybody is happy.

If you play somebody's music and refuse to pay them, you are no better than the thug who took your computer while you were at work. If the music industry uses political power to get a law written that sets the royalty too high, they become the thug from the next neighborhood taking your wallet.

Do you guys really want to live in a community of anarchy where only the biggest and baddest survive?

Anybody want to buy this used soap-box? I'm through with it now. :-\

I think you've hit the nail spot-on with that one, GRC! The RIAA with all their little offshoots (i.e., SoundExchange, musicFIRST, etc) seem to have too much power in greasing the wheels (not to mention the politicians) to get legislation written to favor their interests. A group that often cites "large administrative costs" preventing them from paying artists owed money then has news stories written about the funds they've collected they can't seem to distribute to those who should receive it.

I have no problem paying the royalties the way radio had been use to. It's when the RIAA started to play games with internet streaming was when I personally said "enough is enough" and dropped out. This has affected me to the point what I buy new music (which is still pretty rare) I'll only patronize artists not in bed with the big labels or RIAA. I buy popular/mainstream music used (CDs and mostly vinyl) as to not feed the RIAA greed machine further.

As long as the political machine is gummed up with politicians who forget about who put them in office this sad state of affairs will continue. I commend those of you who stream and put up with the nonsense with the entire current royalty structure.
