Whitewater Broadcasting at it again

I was just informed that Whitewater Broadcasting / David Rodgers has purchased WKWH-FM in Rushville, Indiana. This is the same group that sold the Connersville FM station a few months ago and moved the frequency to Norwood, Ohio. Has anyone heard of this sale yet? I was told he was taking the station over in June. Not sure whether that will mean moving the station to Connersville or leaving it at the building in Rushville

Terrible Terry Turley must be having a wicked case of deja vu.

You shouldn't be too surprised, Randy. WKWH [formerly WRCR] has been on the radar since the two Daves made the trade for Richmond. Is the AM also in the deal?

Randy.

knew they offered cash didnt know how much.

Staff at Rushville didn't know last week. Manager at Connsersville keeps talking about it. What do you know about the deal?

Checked and the transmitter site is locked solid where it is because of a station in Ohio. Still no signal in Connersville from this, how does this help them? Can you hear it on car radio? Stick is a mile from the WJCF site and this requires translator to hear in Connersville.

Am not included. No one will touch it. especially at the price.

I have been told the AM is moving back to Shelbyville....

The FM has turned into a decent sounding country station and can be heard from a good distance. I know I can pick it up from where I work on the ES of Indianapolis on 94.3.

I just hope it turns out well for the city of Connersville. With Visteon and all they need something.

Bob Brown lives in Rushville so maybe he'll stay over there and run it and then Jerri Pruet can name herself program director since she ALREADY has her hands in it since the format change

I engineered both Grencastle and Rushville at one time. Both would mix within 465 and then 94.3 rushville won at Post Road.

I had a friend tune in 94.3 in Connersville and you can't hear it there with an outside antenna. (in the valley, valley so low)

No money to be made in Indy, so...

Would they serve Connersville (a big stretch with the signal) or continue in Rushville?

I haven't done any reasearch for this...but maybe WRB thinks it pay Mark Lange to move WREB west to Brazil or so, then upgrade WKWH to B1.

That sounds really far out with the spacing requirements for WFBQ.

If ChiefEngineer says they're stuck to the east, I believe him. My maps say they're stuck to the west due to WREB and WFBQ.

I was driving to a Cincy suburb by way of Richmond not too long ago and tuned Buddy (WKWH). Love the imaging, good music mix too. I tried to tune it in the parking lot of Community South hospital and got WREB. Go figure.

WREB can move to TH but the limiting factors are WFBQ at Indy and WISG at whatever city they are serving this week to the West. WREB isn't even a factor in the mix as a result.

And TH NEEDS another station.

WMMX was shortspaced when WKWH was 3kw, then when Class A became 6k it was REALLY shortspaced.

I miss Time To Trade with mary poppins.

Well i guess the Classic Country Club's days are numbered once again. I had worked for Whitewater Broadcasting Stations WCNB AM/WIFE FM part time for 12 years. I knew Dave Rodgers had sold WIFE fm and was told by program Bob (Brown) Wills that everything was ok and not to worry because Dave Rodgers said no one would be let go. Then for almost a year i thought i was working in a refridgerator with all the cold treatment i got from the program director and general manager Jerri Pruet. A week before they switched formats, i was telephoned by one of the deejays and one of the sales people that i was going to be let go. The program director called me at my other place of employment and said he had to see me right away. I asked him what it was about and he refused to to tell me. So i picked up my belongings and quit and not giving them the satisfaction of telling me you are fired. I'll admit this made me very bitter for some time. I was very lucky to get another chance with te show at WKWH radio in Rushville, Indiana. Now i'm back where i started and looking for another gig thanks to Dave Rodgers, Bob (Brown) Wills and Jerri Pruet. I wish Dave the very best with his new toy, that he bought at a yard sale price. Thanks for the memories. Terrible Terry Turley

I'm sorry to hear about the demise of your show once again, Terry. The good news is there are still a few stations around the area that might pick you up, namely WRBI, WSCH/WXCH, and WMDH just to name a few. The nice thing about Indiana, you can't go too far without running into another country powerhouse.

I understand Whitewater's motives behind selling 100.3 and downgrading 101.3. The cash was too good to pass up such an offer. However, the void still remains in the Whitewater Valley. 100.3 was really sounding great...too bad it was just a filler format until the station got sold off. Plus, I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but 101.3's downgrade has really affected the station's signal as well. I was driving on US 40 in Western Wayne County on Saturday and was picking up a fairly decent signal from The Wiz down in Cincinnati. A few months ago, I noticed the same thing in Preble County, Ohio just outside of Richmond. I even lost full FM stereo quality just west of Eaton, a mere 12 miles east of Richmond. Maybe Whitewater Broadcasting should invest some money to either get that tower of theirs moved between Richmond and Muncie on a full stick, as initially proposed, or add some height to their existing tower. 101.3 has always been on a short stick, but now that they've downgraded, the true weakness of their signal is very noticeable.

Sorry to see another classic country format go by the wayside. Sure miss it in the Terre Haute area market. I have hoped that one of the stations at Crossroads Communications would have picked it up. Who did the classic country shoe on 105.1 in Bloomington IN. years ago?

Artistic Media Partners owned 105.1 when it was WGCT "Big Red Country 105." It was a pretty good station, and from what I heard, fairly well-listened to. It did seem kind of odd that classic country would be on in a college town such as Bloomington, however, but nevertheless, a great station when it was around.

Yea, but didn't someone once do a live and local classic country show on Sunday mornings?

Bob Wills gets all the credit for saving WIFE 1580 in connersville with all that moldie oldie crap when indeed he was coached everyday by his boss lady jerri pruet who did not like country music and Dave Rodgers hired consultant from Indy who i feel screwed the connersville folks out of country music. He is boss to Rick Duncan at WFMG/WKBV in Richmond as well as WZZY in Winchester Indiana. This Havens is running Whitewater Broadcasting, not Bob Wills, Rick Duncan or even the Old Battle Ax, Jerri Pruet. They all answer to he and his boss, Dave Rodgers.

The consultant you refer to programmed the biggest country music station in America (WHN/New York) during the urban cowboy days of the early 80's. He is respected industry-wide for being smart and fair...not to mention he's a heck of a nice guy.

This wouldn't be Gary Havens by chance, would it?

That would be Gary Havens. I'd heard his name for a couple of decades, but never had any contact with him until he became the consultant for Whitewater Broadcasting. He is a great guy...very knowledgeable, but minus the big ego that's often part & parcel of someone with his experience. He's an asset to the company & a pleasure to work with.

Gary Havens is truly a class act. When I was a 20 year-old college kid, I showed up uninvited to the WTPI lobby with an aircheck. Mr. Havens gave me a tour...critiqued my aircheck...and spent an hour with me in the conference room offering advice on how to get better. I've never personally thanked him, but seventeen years later I still owe him a debt of gratitude. He's programmed in New York City, Chicago and Indy yet never let it go to his head. Those who are lucky enough to work with him should take the opportunity to learn as much as they can.

Hello Everyone!

While I am usually a lurker and rarely post, I had to comment. I love reading this website to find out the latest industry news, not only for Indiana but other states I have worked or have friends.

HOWEVER when I see a thread such as this, filled with character assassination, and obviously half truths, I accept them at face value, obviously the work of disgruntled former employees or those simply with an "AX" to grind, and I don't mean of the "battle" variety.

It doesn't take long to figure out there must be a lot more to the story!

Have a good day!

Do a search and go back and read previous WWV Broadcasting threads.....If you don't live in the area we are talking about, you really don't need to comment further. I don't know this Havens guy and don't care

I'm terribly sorry that good radio people are out of work. My prayers go out to those who are hurting. Since the thread was about a certain company, I thought the consultant was relevant to the discussion. Furthermore, I'm not going to sit back and let some small-market puke take pot-shots at individuals who are respected nationally. There's nothing wrong with small-market radio, but it's obvious why some haven't been able to advance their careers.
