Whither WVKO...

If this were to happen, will this be a LMA?? If so, will Gary Richards LMA the station? He used to LMA WVKO-AM four years ago. If not, Bernard Ohio LLC. will program the station Progressive talk.

Maybe Mark of WLOH radio can and is willing to conform this Progressive Talk rumor.

My guess is WVKO-AM will go Spanish and but maybe Progressive Talk will appear on WVKO-AM. I doubt they will go back to Gospel.

Gary Richards will LMA WVKO-AM again on January 1, 2012.... The Format will be... Drum Roll.... Progressive Talk!
100% sure!

As much as I hate these hosts and this format, this actually makes some sense. I am absolutely of the school that you should give people what they can't find elsewhere and this seems to be a niche format that diehards will go out of their way to listen to. With two signals, he might have the added benefit that there is enough critical mass to make this work.

GR definitely did a good job with sports broadcasting, I only hope his audio is up to snuff this time around.

I still think he would be more successful doing what WAKR does than wasting his time with something that has failed umpteen times before. What WAKR does would truly be something different, at least in Columbus.

Hey if this is true, we can be 100 % sure the audio quality likely wont match the quality of St Gabriel.... I would laugh if they air audio from the CLE station including local ids / ads / weather / traffic etc =P off an internet stream!

CD101 isn't any better .... they still haven't invested in an STL.

Hey, wasn't GR at CD101 at one point in his career? Maybe that's where GR learned sound engineering?

Speaking of Nostalgia, about 20 years ago, 1540 in Circleville used to run a slate of talk show hosts that were kind of "out there" (as in being in conspiracy theory land). (Sonny Bloch was one of the hosts and he ended up in prison.) They had the same kook factor as Art Bell, but without the aliens. I don't know if Robb Case took these guys seriously or not, but I found some of those shows very entertaining. - Is this kind of programming is still out there and whether it would work as niche programming on one of these throwaway 1,000-watt signals?

ah good ol 1540 WNRJ! I remember when they ran a standards type format... then they went to automated Christian AC (after 107.1 WTLT switched to rebroadcasting 105.7. I think the Christian AC format was the last one they had before going dark sometime in the 90s.

The old Sun Radio Network.

I used to listen some afternoons and if I remember correctly Sonny Bloch was always talking economic doom. There was another guy who sounded like he was the official voice of the militia. It was moderately amusing in its time and day. (I know it probably wasn't intended to be amusing.) Anyway, something like this would at least be something different than having yet more Rush wannabes talking politics for three hours.

The WNRJ call letters were first used on the Power Pig ("NRJ"=Energy=Power). I guess Mr. Case thought they had some value, so he warehoused them in Circleville. Besides, they were close enough to the legacy 1540 call letters WNRE that it almost sounded like a play on them.

Yes at sign on the thought was to be WNRJ Energy 105 but they changed it to The Power Pig, then the Power Pig in Tampa, Fl made Rob change it to Power 1057.

When St. Gabriel Radio took over the LMA from GR on WVKO-AM, the audio quality went from poor to very good. So, when GR takes over the frequency again, the audio will go from very good to poor, at least if history repeats itself.
But lets not give GR a hard time, as an acquaintance told me, he is ONLY trying to give the
Progressive Talk radio format a voice when other broadcasters could care less about it.

I believe we may hear a internet relay of his Progressive Talk radio station he is LMAing in Cleveland.

Yes it's only in jest and you have to root for the little guy (even if lib talk isn't my cup of tea). I thought he did a great job with high school basketball. But I come from the school that you have to provide entertainment and a quality product. Crappy sound detracts from that.

My point I made a few weeks ago is we may see GR LMA WVKO-AM aging. He considered WVKO-AM as a successful liberal talk radio station, as least from the standpoint of the passion from it's listeners during it's brief run.

Also, maybe GR has an ax to grind with the Catholics who killed his liberal talk format over WVKO-AM! He didn't have anything good to say about them when they took over WVKO-AM three years ago. Now GR will be in the same building as the Catholics.
Oh, the horror of it all.

No Rush: Cleveland to Get Liberal Talk Radio Station

Richards made his bones in the Columbus market, where he launched the still-chugging FM alternative CD101 back in 1990. A progressive talk station he started there a few years ago also had a gallant if brief run.

"It worked out quite well,” he says. “Unfortunately, the owners leased it out to a group of Catholics.” And you know what Catholics do to liberalism.

The source(s) don't want to be Identified. You should know better then that to ask that question because this isn't official as of yet.

I didn't ask for name/rank/serial number...just a general idea of where you are hearing this. Did you walk out your door and hear people talking about it in front of the dry cleaners? Did you hear it on another radio show?

Asked a few people who may have the answers. They asked not to be exposed. You would be considered reliable sources of information if you knew who they were.

The part on WABQ-AM being relayed by WVKO-AM is pure speculation. The only thing for sure is GR will program WVKO-AM on January 1, 2012,
baring any technical problems.

Stephanie Miller and Big Eddy will be part of the new WVKO-AM lineup...
