Whitney Houston's Kid Buoys Oprah's OWN Network

An interview with the daughter of late singer Whitney Houston helped Oprah Winfrey's OWN network to its best ratings in the short history of the network. Oprah's interview with Bobbi Kristina was seen by 3.5 million viewers, more than doubling the previous most-watched program on OWN, an Oprah sitdown with pastor Joel Osteen.

If only people figured out where OWN was located on their cable lineups more often, Oprah's life would be much easier.

I'm not sure why she gave up her daytime show if she is still doing interviews and so involved.

I know Oprah hated getting up early and getting make-up done every morning but if so, she could have shifted the syndicated show to daytime (it was taped in the AM in Chicago). The cable network maybe less stress but it's unclear if she can keep it afloat the way she wants it.

Alot of people invested money into her project so she had to go for it. The problem is the channel has no intrest at all with its current programs. Even Rosie show is dull without her studio audience. Classic episodes of Oprah talkshow is the only thing worth watching maybe. Im sure the ABC stations would love to have her back in the afternoons.

The thinking must be that people will follow her over to her (own) O.W.Network without question in this nice 500 channel Universe!

@KIFR: I could see her appearance as a veiled "audition" for a future on the network. I mean, Oprah and Rosie can only do so much...

@Yez: I'm still looking for TruTV on my cable lineup... :-X

In the case of WLS-TV, maybe the morning hours. They were one of a few stations that had Oprah on in the morning instead of the afternoon. While Windy City Live is doing ok for them, I hear their ratings are mainly attracting those over 55, & that's not good for advertisers. Who knows if Harpo Studios will remain in Chicago once Rosie leaves Chicago. As for Rosie's talk show, I doubt moving it to New York will do any better.

I think Rosie's old talk show was taped in NY. I read online some viewers liked the new format of the show. I guess her new format follows Gayle Kings show which use to air on OWN without a studio audience. Im just wondering why she decided to do another channel after she stepped away from Oxygen a few years ago?
