whitney johnson

they get rid of whitney johnson and keep nancy alexander??? What a shame.

from st pete times..

"It has been a great run,'' Johnson told the St. Petersburg Times.”It's a sad day, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to do what I did at 620. It was a good ride.''

Don't worry Whitney! I've got a plan!

1) Get a tan
2) Get a cardboard sign that states you have a God given voice, yada yada...
3) Dress in your worst clothes...um..well...ok, what you normally wear should suffice.
4) Let your hair get scraggly...again...yeah, you got that going for you.
5) Start downing half a bottle of vodka per day..or roll some doobs, whatever works for ya.
6) You probably don't have kids of your own, so hire some hooker from South St Pete and slap her around a bit.
7) Take your act to the intersection of 4th and Gandy.

If you don't get a gig, you'll probably get free rehab...or maybe at least some sympathy from Mike Hennesey

They are an affiliate of Fox Sports, Of course they are going to get rid of the good guys and keep the crap

620 keeps Dan Sileo and FSR keeps, Vic The Brick Jacobs and shows like PMS

Boy, what a smug, arrogant, condescending attitude. Kicking people while they're down iis really an ugly habit. For the record Whitney does have my sympathy, but that's not borne out of some bleeding heart tendency on my part. It's because Whitney's been my friend for the better part of 30 years.

Whitney is a great guy and would be a great sports guy on a morning show. Luckily there seems to be a different am sports show in the area every week. I'm sure someone will snatch him up.
Good luck Whit!

Lighten up, Mike..it wrote itself. We've all been there, ok? I'm sure within weeks he'll have a gig somewhere, if not on air, something to pay the bills.

How right you are Cowhead! Whitney has been around forever! I wish him the best of luck! I know he will land on his feet! I might have an idea Whitney. Contact me!

Same thing was said about Braden Gunn. At least Whitney will be sitting on the Beach with some good company.

A nice piece by Joe Henderson of The Tampa Tribune ...

Whenever you'd hear "Hellllllo, Tampa Bay … how the heck are ya?" coming out of your radio, you knew Whitney Johnson was on the air at the Sports Animal. That was a good thing.

But how the heck are we now? Not so good these days, not since Whit was called to his boss's office at WDAE (620 AM) last Friday and … well, let him tell you.

"We have a new program director, and I saw him in the hall. I said, 'Hello,' and he says, 'Got a minute?' I walk into his office, and he says we are moving in a different direction and you are terminated as of today. Two sentences, boom! The whole thing took about a minute."

Just like that.

I could see Whitney working on Bubba's show in some capacity. He is, after all, a rock n' roll kinda fellow.

But when the dismissal of a person brings the HR lady to tears (as recounted by Whitney in the above link), clearly such a move should be questionable.

A sad thing indeed. Whitney Johnson is the first name I learned in Tampa radio when I got here. Some didn't like his style, but I certainly did. It does suck to see a guy like Silieo still doing that awful show while guys like Whitney get shown the door.
