WHIZ 92.7

I know it’s not exactly Columbus, but has anyone heard WHIZ out of Zanesville lately? Looking at their playlist (find that here), it appears their music selections have not been updated since the sale to Marquee Broadcasting 4 years ago. Basically, they’re a small-market CHR frozen in time in mid-2022, complete with all the mid- and low-chart stiffs from that era. Have to wonder if anyone still listens… and how much longer they will go on neglecting the station like this.

No way that could possibly a current playlist? Could it? Most of those songs were never charted years ago, Why would anyone still be playing We Dont Talk About Bruno?

I was listening to the stream and that is indeed the current playlist. And although I don’t live in that area, I was passing through the area several months ago and noticed this then too over-the-air, so it’s not an issue with their stream playing different music. Very, very, very strange. This is the rare instance selling out to a religious operator would be an upgrade.

Funny thing 92.7 used to be 104.9 "The River" WCVO's Sister station "WCVZ" years ago but they sold it. 102.5 "moved" west to be a Columbus, OH station and the WHIZ format landed on 92.7.

Not that I wish for it to go religious but it would fill a hole for "KLove" in Eastern Ohio.

This kind of reminds me of what was left of the top 40/oldies KHZ tv radio network WAMD in Aberdeen, MD. For years nothing was added / deleted after the owner passed. His wife continued some local public affairs shows i think maybe once a week. But musically nothing was changed as far as the stations currents including those that never really took off. Like imagine a dud from Harry Styles, that never moved up the charts but for some reason for years it was in heavy rotation as something "new" on the station.

I used to listen when I lived in Thornville and when I visited my girlfriend/now-wife in Zanesville. This was 10+ years ago now. They had a solid mix of 80s, 90s and currents then, but once they got rid of the older stuff I lost interest. I hope they are at least predominantly local like they were then, but probably not. I am on the outer range of their signal in Pickerington and can't remember the last time I listened to them other than for a random local sporting event they carry.

Funnier as the revolving radio owner and formats change, K-Love is now on 102.5, after that signal got sold to Educational Media Foundation. Too bad WWCD couldn't have lasted. They wanted to buy that signal a few years back.
