maybe hire Arlene and/or Depetro.

Let's face it. Radio Sucks now in Providence. Nobody really stands out anymore in a unique way.One voice sounds sounds like the next.
I wish I would have heard JD or even Maryann Sorrontino or both at the rally. Now that would be some interesting radio.
Edited by kenwood on 06/04/05 12:59 PM.

I miss WHJJ and how good it was just one year ago.
I don't hate WHJJ at all.
What I hate is how HJJ's clueless manangement took a lively and important Rhode Island radio station and made it completely irrelevant in under one year.
Have you seen their ratings??
How does WHJJ management still have their jobs??
Talk about incompetent.
To show my displeasure with HJJ whenever I listen to Imus I'll tune in on 660 WFAN out of New York. That 50,000 watt bad boy comes in clear as a bell here in Rhody. I would advise any and all Imus fans to do the same.

Agreed! Or maybe 'HJJ will go back to conservatalk in the hopes of higher
ratings. I don't know how long they're willing to stay with progtalk
to see if it can rebound.
How would they do with:

--6 am Imus or a local show
--9 am Ingraham or Glenn Beck or DePetro (if he leaves 'RKO)
--noon Violet
--3 pm Hannity
later could do: Phil Hendrie, tape delayed Howie Carr, etc.

Nothing against you personally but No one in Rhode Island should be tuning in to WFAN.I know of a few people who do.With 3 sports stations in Providence there should be no need to go to a New York station but it still happens.

Why not? Providence is a typical mediocre mid sized market. If someone chooses to listen to a professional Large Market station with better talent, then why shouldn't they be able to? Your comment is like someone saying with all the Restaurants in Rhode Island, there should be no need to go out of state to eat. Well guess what? I'm in the mood to eat at Fuddruckers. So I see plenty of need to go out of state! I don't see a Fuddruckers around here. By the way... on my way to eat I want to listen to Howard Stern. Guess what? That means I won't be tuned into a Rhode Island Radio station either!

Sorry to get on your case.... but your comment was based on a weird perception that Rhode Island fills every need that a person should have. However it obviously doesn't. There is a lot that Rhode Island does not have and sometimes you just need to go somewhere else to get it!

Re: WHJJ and WFAN

I never said I listen to WFAN for the sports.
I said I listen to Imus on WFAN because I will not give WHJJ
any more of my time than is absolutely necessary.
The only thing left on HJJ that I will listen to is Arlene but she
seems to go heavy on the national issues because of their Air America
affiliation so I don't listen to her anywhere near as much as I used to.
I probably spend about 2 hours a week listening to WHJJ.
A year ago I was listening to more than two hours a day on that station.
Sad!

By far the best show WHJJ has had on the air in the past 10 years. It's worth the entire subscription cost to XM just to hear that one show. Phil Hendrie is arguably one of the best broadcasters of all time.

Or Steak and Shake. Or Sonic. God, I love those places. I wish we had them in the northeast.

Imus has fans? :)

What Id like to see is WHJJ dump Imus and any other legacy of the old whjj

I am not an Arlene Violet fan but assuming that she is a good asseet to the station here's a schedule worthy of WHJJ but not completely duplicate the Boston Station

5am - 6am - Rachel Maddow
6am - 9am - Local Show / Morning Sedition (or another suitable host)
9am - 12n - Arlene Violet / Thom Hartmann
12n - 3pm - Al Franken
3pm - 7pm - Randi Rhodes LIVE (Baybee!!!)
7pm - 10pm - Majority Report
10pm - 1am - Mike Malloy
1am - 4am - Jerry Springer tape delay
4am - 5am - Local / Repeat

Its time to take back those two hours wasted by Geoff Charles or move him to the weekend....

What you're advocating is the complete destruction of WHJJ.
Considering the progressive direction they're taking that's a good
thing.
But I do agree with you on one thing, Geoff Charles is a waste of time.

It's already destroyed.

if we listened to people like you the world - would continue to be further infested with distortions and lies from conservative talk radio....why is it
that a radio station that broadcast conservative viewpoints is not "destroying" a station? I understand why you believe in conservative politics as the choice..but there is a right to free speech....and progressive radio is something you are going to have to get used to.....whether you like it or not....

You guys in the radio business need to quit making a 12+ ratings a major issue and tell the truth for once.....instead of acting like the hosts you admire so much and distort what you know is true.

> why is it

This statement is hilarious considering the fact that WHJJ's ratings have gone through the floor with their adoption of AAR.

It seems that you are going to spend your every waking moment following and flaming my every comment on radio-info....dont you non-liberals dislike two men being so close...(ROTFLMAO)

seriously, i agree that the 12+ has dropped...but the station is not in trouble based on all of our knowlege of how the radio industry and its advertisers grade the effectiveness/success of a radio station. I think it would be logical that conservatives who were listening to the station either decided to listen to the other 19 conservative radio outlets (For you Jericho, i better explain...i said 19 out of sarcasm rather than the actual number which wouldnt be as fun to quote). That being said...not everyone left and WHJJ still has its advertisers. Unless you (using your baseless charge of destruction) can list the many advertisers who left....which right now i believe is none....then the station is not "destroyed". Now WHJJ has a real challenge, a opportunity to move the numbers up by trying to grab new viewers and build from there. Im sure they will do just fine without your support...and now that i mention it..they will do fine without your hate as well. Again you and others continue to spin 12+ numbers as valuable and that has to stop....

....just because you don't like it...doesnt mean its true...or bad...and you (so far) have ever used any real information outside of your uncanny ability to flame to actually offer a decent rebuttal much less a fact based discussion...or post a worthy quote...

Well, you can keep rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic all you want if it makes you feel better. The fact is that AAR has been a disastrous move for WHJJ and the ratings have reflected it - not just their ratings but the ratings of their competition as well. The numbers don't lie.
