WHJY Number One, WPRO-AM Jumps!

Woah, January PPM's are out, and while the after Christmas drops are predictable (WWLI went 11.0-9.4 and WSNE went 7.8-4.7) but WHJY took a leap from 4th to 1st?!?! Has WHJY ever been number one 6+ or 12+ in Providence?

Also of note: WPRO-AM jumped 5.8-5.7-7.0 (December-Holiday-January.) Impressive! Thoughts?

Lite, HJY and Pro-FM used to jockey 1, 2 & 3 during the late 80's and early 90's.

As I said in other threads, Arbitron is still tweaking the sample here in Providence along with a number of other markets as they did in NY, LA etc when they first started out, so for the 1st year you can see large swings because of changes to those that now have meters replacing those that might not have been in the sample segments that Arbitron was looking for

See what happens when you staff the station with live DJs through most of its dayparts, let the jocks have some leeway with how they execute their shows, and program it independently of all other Clear Channel rock stations and not rely on Premium Choice? Who knew?!?!

Unfortunatly those day are probably numbered. I never thought I would see the day when PRO-FM would have its early night broadcast be syndicated but it is... How long will HJY be able to hold down the fort and stay off the trend in this radio market?

As far as I know the station is not live very often at all any more. Am I missing something? The last time I talked to someone there they told me the station was mostly voice tracked outside of morning drive, unless that has changed

One source says that Jenn's shift is tracked off-and-on, but sometimes live. Charles' show is most likely often live, as there are many times that Charles interrupts Scarpetti, something that would not occur on a voicetracked show. Battle's show is nearly always voicetracked.

The point about WHJY is that at least they are local. It is rare to hear the dreaded "I Heart Radio" slogan on that station.

When you're proficient at voice tracking and doing the recording at a time of day when others are around it's no trick to do the interrupts. Even if they're not, with a little pre-planning the interrupts can be separately pre-recorded and run in to the tracks. Takes a little more skill....I've only done it with NexGen so can't say what it takes with other automation systems.
