WHK is 90 years old...need airchecks and memories...

Anyone with contacts to former dj's/newscasters/talk hosts/anyone who was on staff at WHK or has audio/air-checks from the WHK airwaves...we are interested in gathering and interviewing folks for a special broadcast(s) celebrating WHK's 90 years of existence. We are looking for anything from the 1950's and earlier plus ANY sports broadcasts. Please contact Joe Sweeny at 216-901-0921 x229 or email: [email protected]

Try to see if Jim Davison has any recordings. He runs the broadcasting portion of the Baseball Heritage Museum at the Colonial Marketplace in Downtown Cleveland. He is a keeper of a lot of broadcasting archives.

Mike Olszewski might be another good source. You can try and contact him as well. Hope you find what you need.

Happy Anniversary to WHK too! ;D

You guys and gals at WHK did a good job celebrating the station's 85th anniversary. I appreciate your efforts in respecting the station's vast history. I enjoyed the Gary Dee special you ran. Could you run that again, or have a new one produced? Since Salem Communications is now a part of the rich history of WHK 1420, I hope that you will archive some prime examples of what you currently air so your efforts in 2012 can be remembered, and celebrated decades from now. May I suggest getting choice moments from Dennis Prager and Michael Medved's shows? Also, archive a few local newcasts by Josh Booth. Pick ones where major news stories are reported, like in November when the Presidential election take place.

I've always been a believer in remembering to try to archive history as it happens. For example, you could interview Josh now about being a WHK newscaster and leave it for the future to use. Why wait for 40 years and then have someone hope they can get in contact with on-air, or even management personnel. Interview your key players NOW about what WHK does and why and leave/archive it for posterity. If nothing else, it may encourage future owners/managers to continue doing something valuable that you started.

I have a bunch of WHK reels that I used when I produced the 85th anniversary imaging. I'll see if I can find them and get them to you. If I remember correctly, there's a ton of Gary Dee material on them.
