WHK news

I listen to "The Dennis Prager Show" almost every weekday afternoon. I've noticed that when Josh Booth does the news, beginning with the 1:00pm newscast, he spices things up with a good number of actualities. Other newscasters over the years would just read the news cold. My favorite of these others was Mike Ward. I think Josh's decision to add the actualities keeps things moving and more interesting then just hearing someone read for 4 minutes straight.

I still can remember when Tim Taylor did the news on WHK before the Bob Friend show at noon. I know I'm waxing nostalgic again.

I have a recording of Tim Taylor doing the news on WHK during the Mighty Mitch show on Memorial Day 1967, he was talking a mile a minute with alittle reverb effects, wow you have been around jim t.

I began listening to WHK in 1968 when I started following the Browns. In addition to listening to the games with Gib Shanley and Jim Graner on Sundays, I also tuned in during the week. I believe the weekday lineup was Paul King, Ted Hallaman, Frank McHale, Ronnie Barrett (Grin & Barrett :D) and Jack Reynolds. On Monday mornings during the football season, I tuned in to "Monday Morning Quarterback" with Bill Nelson. Gib Shanley did a sports report at 4:30 pm and Don Calo did sports reports at 5:30 and 6:30 pm. I still remember his signature sign-off - "This is Don Calo wishing you loads of good luck, the good life and good night everybody". Wow, I guess I am waxing nostalgic now. Actually, I should be waxing my skis. :D

I remember when Ronnie Barrett used to voicetrack his WRMR shift in the evening. Who would have thought back then it would be the norm today? ::)
