Had to go to the only radio in the house that gets a clear signal from them at night, but...they're running Mike Gallagher right now (11:35 PM ET).

What's the difference? They do the same show! You know: Liberals bad...Liberals bad....Liberals bad.....Liberals bad.....Liberals bad.......

Savage throws in a fair of amount of republicans bad, republican bad into the mix because when they try to act like liberals they deserve attacking

A (for now) Savage-less WHK...

Here's what I've gathered:

WHK is running the same Mike Gallagher show (!) back-to-back: from 9:30p-12a, and from 12a-3a. Dumped the horrific "America at Night" to do so.

Now, is this a preperation for a Savage add? Hopefully. ANYTHING'S better than Hugh Hewitt in the 6p-9p slot, and if Salem wants anyone to take the damn station seriously, they'd pick him up. Or Hannity.

The caveat: I'm by no means a fan of Savage - or of polar opposite Mike Malloy, either.

Oh well, that's different! Why ELSE would he ever critcize a Rebublican?
Glad you straightened me out about the fact that his show is not just "Liberal bad....Liberals bad". Enjoy the Kool-Aid. Sheesh.

Re: A (for now) Savage-less WHK...

I'm with HHH. Who CARES which rabid right-wing zealot is on there? It's the same hateful bile and propaganda regardless. You don't even need to turn these people on because you know what you're going to get, and it is anything but "intelligent talk," as WHK at least initially billed it. Have they started the nonstop attacks on public broadcasting yet?

I know some people on here are fascinated enough to discuss all sorts of arcana with respect to clearing various syndicated programs, but it just makes my eyes glaze over. Even the p!ss!ng contests among top 40 people in certain other markets are more entertaining and interesting. Phooey.

My simple gripes with WHK and Salem...

My problems with WHK are far-reaching. Bear in mind that I am of conservative thought:

It's just not the uniform approach to their talk shows: whatever you hear on Bennett's show is identical to what's on Laura, Dennis, Medved, Hewitt or Gallagher - and that IS a problem, indeed...

Nor is it only that Salem apparently - no, they DO - care more about WHK's on-air presentation than with 50KW sister station WKNR. (Oh, and both stations share the same PD in Mike Luczak!)

No, it's the fact that Salem packages WHK the same exact way as every other conservatalker they own. Big shock here. And (excluding KNUS/Denver, which has Hannity and does decently) they all are made-to-order for a 0.5 or 1.0 rating. It takes no effort to create or run a WHK: all you need is a small closet, an audio board w/ a $10 mic, a sattelite hookup, and a computer with Scott Studios!

And as I said earlier, I could care less about Savage and if WHK picks him up. The paytoilet weekends are more interesting to me, IMHO.

Nate, when do they need the $10 microphone? Do they actually air any local programming? ;)

(OK, so if anyone DOES buy time on WHK locally, and needs to go on the air on weekends or something, they could use 1220's digs in the same building, I assume...)

It's almost as if Salem is afraid of *success* with its conservatalk stations. Let's say WHK/1420 picked up Hannity. Let's say Hannity started picking up the kind of ratings in Cleveland that he's picking up in Akron and Canton on WHLO/640. What would they do? They'd actually have to WORK at packaging and promoting Hannity. They'd have to take down one of those two or three billboards featuring Salem's own personalities and put up one with Hannity. And that's just the start!

It seems the primary mission of Salem's secular talk stations is simple: Pick up some spare change from advertisers hoping to reach the conservative diehard lifegroup which isn't listening to 1220, and spread the reach of their own syndicated programs so those programs can be sold nationally.

You should listen sunday nights, there's actually a local talk show with two guys who argue back and forth. One's conservative and one's liberal... Actually pretty entertaining!

It's sunday at 7 pm, I think it's the ONLY local political talk show on the station!!!!

And you are right. I do know the liberal host is Cuyahoga County Democratic Party chief Kevin Kelley. Don't know who the conservative host is.

Oh, "Kelly's Korner" is the ONLY local political talk show - not just on WHK, but for much of Greater Cleveland! (Yeah, there's Bob Becker at WTAM, but Wills and Triv don't count here...) It's also brokered.

Nate--

You forgot Art McKoy, Sunday nights on WTAM.

You've aksed for it. Now McKoy's gonna be on your doorstep late at night screaming "No justice, no peace" for all your neighbors to hear and be irritated--just like his listeners! :)

Mr. McCoy and WTAM...

As far as I know, he's still doing the Sunday night show, right?

I ask for a reason. A WTAM news story actually used him for soundbites, due to his community activism about whatever issue they were covering. Mr. McCoy was not identified as being a WTAM host.

He was as of two weeks ago--Triv was making fun of him and played a bit from Art's Sunday night show.

If they used his sound bite, they should have, in full disclosure, mentioned his show--for journalistic creds, and to advertise it.

Who's a better sound bite than Art, really?

In my long and storied radio career (chuckle), I've run into a dozen Art McCoys. He's a fantastic sound bite. He's one of those guys you seek out if you're looking for good tape.

As far as the disclosure, I heard them do two versions of that story, and neither identified McCoy as one of their own hosts. I'm guessing that the people doing the story may not have been AWARE that he has that Sunday night show.

Half the time I forget that WTAM even has the transmitter on after the post-game. I mean, for me, Saturday and/or Sunday night isn't prime talk-radio time (when I'm even in Cleveland--which is getting more rare the closer Pittsburgh moving day comes).
