WHKC changes

I tuned into 91.5 WHKC and they are now playing a mix of Christian music.

I will have to say its a great mix, they are playing stuff that none of the other Christian outlets in town have played ever.

Good For Them!I also would love WHKC to carry"Air 1"in the near future.

I dont see them going air 1 as that is an EMF format... if EMF wanted the station they would put KLOVE on it before they would bring Air1 here.

I rather it stay under local ownership.

Looks like the change happened this afternoon:

Savage Garden Truly Madly Deeply
2:19 PM

Richard Marx Endless Summer Nights
2:23 PM

Sanctus Real The Face Of Love
2:29 PM

Krystal Meyers The Beauty Of Grace
2:38 PM

Casting Crowns Lifesong
2:42 PM

A truly sad day in Columbus radio. Enough to turn a nice Catholic boy into an athiest.

I understand the loss of the 80s/90s/easy listening at times format of 91.5 is sad.. I miss it to but realistic I knew inside that that would never be the final place for WHKC.

I have been listening to a lot of 91.5 tonight and I will say I am pleased with their music mix. They are playing a lot of Christian oldies (what mainstream folks would consider old in their various formats) that you don't hear on any of the other outlets in Columbus.

I hope the legacy of a locally own station can stay true even with the passing of Mr. Case.

Robb could easily sold this station to some national network for millions...but he didn't.

Missed a song...

Yes.com seems to miss anything that wasn't a current or charted song in recent times. I heard "David and the Giants" in the car coming back from DQ during that 2:30-3:30 hour.

Yep, it was a pretty sloppy switch. They cut off Richard Marx halfway through the song, then there was dead air, then cut into the new music in the middle of the song.

Wonder what made them do it now? We knew they were going to do it, but that way?

Hopefully they will keep Mr Case's ideas all in place. It seemed like, or at least from his e-mails, that he was going to try to keep some part of the old format. Maybe I am just hanging on. There are thousands of people who are now going to have to find a way to cope with the same old garbage coming out of the radio again, over and over.

I dunno..

Not sure, I didn't hear the switch (almost as I got in the car about 2:45and noticed the Christian music when I turned on the radio) --- I kinda miss the 80s/90s myself as I grew up on that but I know reality.

Wonder if the cut was a studio switch? or something..I noticed the Chelsie Legal ID's are missing on air now... hopefully they get an ID in there at some point, In the hours I've listened I have not heard "WHKC Columbus" mentioned. Just non stop music.

Personally I would had a big festive launch but I am into those sorta things. Hard to tell what made them do the launch the way they did...maybe all the publicity? I know I hadn't seen any reports that the format would be going Christian until after Mr. Case's passing (even though we all knew that it was likely to head that way).

Well, we can still get the 80s fix on Fridays with Todd Baker on Mix 97.1.

And if you can get the signal, Saturdays on Mount Vernon's WQIO Eagle 93.7 are now "The Saturday 80s Show" from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Keep in mind you may have to wait until BAS winds up its racing season and high school football coverage to catch the full show.

The same format airs on 93.9 WRRR-FM out of St. Marys, West Virginia, which reaches the Parkersburg/Marietta area.

Did a little search on Google and came across this which has me sorta discouraged...

Looks like 91.5 will become the FM Equiv of WRFD (Talk/preaching) and (88.1) WCDR (which has a lot of Talk/Preaching)...

Columbus really needs a Christian radio station with a great mix of music.. WCVO's playlist is too tight and does not even follow a majority of the Christian AC Chart let alone touch the uptempo CHR content..and no one plays much of the CHR material in this town (RadioU is to edgy for a lot of the CHR content)

Columbus didn't need another Christian station, period. There were already more than enough for a market this size.

This past weekend I drove out to Wilmington, DE for a wedding which is always fun for me to check out other markets to compare to Columbus.

The entire drive as I scanned the radio something struck me. The fact there were very few country stations and there were not a whole lot of Christian stations. There were more spanish speaking stations than Country stations I would say. Just makes you realize the demographics of Columbus compared to the east coast.

Then I gave up the radio dial scanning to listen to the Browns. I may love radio but I still have priorities :)

What a shame, the body wasn't even cold and they changed the format! We don't need anymore christian type stations! Guess its back to listening 80's on 8 on XM!

A little religion is good, but too much religion isn't. All religion, all day-every day, is exactly how the Taliban live.
