Well worth the price and a well-stated view, ALW. I share your opinion to the extent that we (myself included) sometimes appear to dwell on the negative. "Beacons of sanity and stability" is a well-crafted phrase. I think "Beacons Of Sanity" gets some airplay on The Edge. Helluva band.
This board serves as a forum for observations, critical review, informed debate, subjective opinion and gossip. I've read some glowingly positive and legitimately harsh reviews over the years. Some recent comments about WWKB were well-stated both positively and negatively, and not necessarily ad hominem attacks. The negative reviews, for the most part, took into consideration the fact that KB endured for three years, serving fans of the music and the station as best as it could before eventually folding its tent.
Certain posters took Entercom to task for KB's Oldies demise, others took the programming and promotions efforts to task. Of those posts, only a very few exuded a certain vicarious joy in seeing the station falter. While I may have criticised WWKB, I made an effort to respect Danny, Tom and Jack for their contributions to broadcasting, despite the fact that their act didn't appear to be drawing well. Admittedly, in some posts, I took programming to task for what appeared to me to be ineffectual and questionable practices.
As to what's happening now at WHLD and WWKB with progressive talk, it may be that posters who are critical of the two news stations are comparing their performance to the successful news talk operations such WNED-AM, WBFO and WBEN; in my estimation, a fair and objective benchmark. In this regard, WHLD and WWKB leave much to be desired. Time will tell if these new stations improve. Clearly, their progress, how they serve the needs of the community and their day to day performance are justifiably open to debate in this forum.
Respectfully,
