WHLI 1100 to make a Major Announcement Friday December 14th

I heard WHLI mention a major announcement will be made on December 14th at 11:00 AM

Can anyone spectate what this might mean ?

From the track record of other stations doing this, I'd say it's some contest.

Or maybe they've decided they're going continous Christmas music?

Or that starting next year a formate change is coming and they're changing to leased-access or whatever else? ;D

While I'm not sure what formate WHLI uses right now, but the choices are:

ethyl formate, CH3CH2(HCOO)
sodium formate, Na(HCOO)
caesium formate, Cs(HCOO)
methyl formate, CH3(HCOO)
methyl chloro formate, CH3OCOCl
triethyl orthoformate, C7H16O3
trimethyl orthoformate, C4H10O3

What do ya think?

They will be going to Spanish Language Talk.
Pretty soon there will be only 6 english Language stations left in the country!

How about fix the signal and audio formate

They actually have a pretty good signal (if you are within the pattern), and the audio processing seems good as well.

Are you sure about this ? You didn't mention where you heard that...I don't believe WHLI will go in that direction as the station sounds like they are devoted to their American audience unless they have made a U -Turn...

Most Hispanics in the New York metro are Puerto Rican, and are as American as you are.

I should have said English not American....

Thanks for clarifying. Now, if they are going Spanjish talk, it would have to be syndicated as the market is too small for an expensive live local talk operation. So it would either be ESPN Deportes en Español or Radio Fórmula, the Mexico City talk satellite net. It would be a very odd move.

Actually the signal has been garbage since they were forced to remove their old tower since it was discovered to be on the verge of collapse. Audio is pretty shot. I remember when I heard them like a local in places like Holbrook and Oakdale. Not anymore.

Shouldn't this thread actually be over on the LI board? After all, WHLI is a Long Island station and shows up in the Long Island book.

Well, it started here. (I guess the fact that WHLI pulled a 0.6 in the NY metro will "allow" this thread to continue).

As to the signal, Mike, WHLI replaced the rotted second tower with a shiny new one.Thankfully the main tower with the big red WHLI calls and 1100 dial position was just fine and continues to inform motorists on the Southern State what radio station has broadcasted there since 1947!

But it shows in the NY book, and has decent coverage in Queens, at least. Beside, Nassau / Suffolk is an embedded market and is actually totally contained in the NY book.

Ahhhright you knuckleheads, yuck it up. ;D ;D ;D

Seriously though, speaking of Spanish talk, I'd love another full-signal talker here in NEW YORK CITY (instead of some suburban thing) -- like the old Radio Unica on 1660. I'd especially love it if Formula were to get a New York affil. That way I can listen to "La Mano Peluda" instead of dealing with internet feeds. ;)

I still stand by my initial statement regarding WHLI. It's probably a contest - or Christmas programming. I'd never think they would make such a big deal if they're switching formats (there ya go), especially to one in another language.

I hear that their "major announcement" involves live turkeys being dropped from a helicopter. I heard this directly from Andy, Arthur, and Les.
God as my witness, I thought they could fly...

Might as well hold all discussion about WALK and WBLI here then too...

I'm down on the Jersey Shore, and it sounds just as good as it ever has. Very solid, and audio processing much better than local WOBM-AM, with similar format.

I know, doesn't mean the ground system or the entire system was properly tuned up :)
