Look further down (and/or click the link). It is an ad for Nassau Financial Federal Credit Union, which is celebrating their 75th anniversary.

WHLI will "only" be turning 64 this year.

MusicRadioUSA, obviously you didn't click on the link as JoeyBagODonuts suggested. You would then been directed to the website for Nassau Financial Federal Credit Union which contains the same "75th Anniversary message" and logo: celebrating the 75th Anniversary Of Nassau Financial, not WHLI. Also, the "75th Anniversary message" on the WHLI website is only contained within the "advertising box" for Nassau Financial and not anywhere else.

I'd suppose that WHLI would have a significant anniversary displayed prominently on their website with links to further info. I'll admit that the 1st impression that the ad's placement and layout gives is that it's related to WHLI in some form or fashion...until you read further down and see that it's related to Nassau Financial. Also clicking on the message/ad would have revealed the ultimate answer.

Besides, as Joey mentioned (and can be easily found via internet search), the station signed on nearly 64 years ago on July 22, 1947.
Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHLI (Granted, the accuracy of Wikipedia can sometimes be shaky.)

Side note: while not totally out of place here on the New York, NY forum, there is a Nassau-Suffolk (Long Island) forum located within these message boards where this post/thread would probably have been more appropriate.

Sorry for the "lecture" nature of this post, just that the internet is your friend - use it to your advantage to research and discover if you're unsure of something.

For a moment there, I thought this was going to be another debatable radio station anniversary - like, for instance, KCBS/San Francisco's "100th anniversary" a couple of years ago... ::)

Aw, come on. Lighten up.

Mischievoous baseball executive Bill Veeck -- originally from Indiana ; his name rhymed with 'wreck' -- wound up with some sort of lalapalooza ball game on the schedule through which to make some extra money. So he decided to christen it as a grand weekend 'anniversary'. Veeck had gone back and discovered that there was no actual date from which to situate an anniversary or a birth year, let alone a day, so he just made one up. Everybody bought it. No one was harmed. Veeck was awesome.

WHLI wants to rewrite history ; that's fine with me. It's a salute to those letters and that tower with the calls hanging off it on the Southern State for a billion motorists fleeing the city for the Countryside of Long Island, so I'm all for it. If WHLI even wants to claim that they were at a disassociated remote and caught me being sired by my folks on the far back seat of a bus at the Hempstead Terminal, that'd still work.

Dean Anthony's passing of the torch was the most important event of the WHLI I gleefully knew for thirty years, though.
