WHLT-TV Hattiesburg/Laurel

Will this station ever operate independently from WJTV? They've been on the air since 1987. I happen to DX them on my TV not too long ago (I don't have a satellite hook-up for the TV in my bedroom) and they were simulcasting WJTV's morning news with Erin Pickens. A lot of their local programming were the same as WJTV's. During my years at USM, they tried doing their own newscasts, but got hammered by WDAM and WLOX. I wouldn't be suprised if WKRG Mobile's newcasts were beating HLT's. Later, the 10pm newscasts were replaced with ten-minute pre-recorded segments from WJTV.

Also, http://www.whlt.com/ simply forwards to the cbs.com site. Seems that Media General doesn't want to invest in the station with news or a web site.

Given what has happened with WMDN CBS24 in Meridian, it's not surprising. There's just not enough room for several stations doing news in smaller markets these days.
