Central Mass. WHMQ Greenfield is silent

Last month, the FCC granted Saga Communications' Request for Silent Authority of an AM Station for WHMQ (1240 kHz) in Greenfield. In its FCC filing in February, Saga stated that "WHMQ suspended operations as of January 24, 2023, due to malfunction of an antenna tuning unit."

Although the Silent STA was scheduled to expire on August 8, Lance Venta reports that "Saga Communications has requested the station’s license be cancelled." Searches at various sites no longer reveal an entry for WHMQ. It's a sad ending to the station that began as WHAI, "Franklin County's first."
