WHN 1050 Country New York City

Thats one of the best country stations around.I dont have airchecks from that era.but I do have airchecks from 1975 to signoff. Most still on cassette and reel to reel which i have to start digitalizing soon.Hats off and a big thank you to Ed Salamon and the gang for entertaining us for those years.

WHN was fantastic - I was an early 20-something country jock in Buffalo in those days and while visiting NYC a couple of times I heard the station. I remember Lee Arnold on middays: plugged into the music, exceptionally smooth, and totally New York big time. I believe the late Del De Montreaux was on WHN, too.

I recall wishing I had the chops back then to be on a station like WHN. Man, how I wanted to be one of those guys!

IMNSHO It seems that this is one station that should've never been sacrificed. Yeah, I know that the powers-that-be wanted to put a revolutionary format on the air, but I don't think that this was the place. I realize the Big Apple isn't a hot-bed for country music, but where there once was something now there isn't!

Thank you for posting that, MusicRadio. I love hearing NY radio from that era. I find it interesting that they used the term "Modern Country" when even in '73 songs like "The Race Is On," "King of the Road," and "Morning" were country oldies!
