WHNY McComb 1250 AM

What happened to HNY? Appears to be defunct. I did a stint there in the early '80s, as a part-time disc jockey, before the age of the CD player. The format was AC at the time, though we played a lot of Top 40 in general. I often wonder what became of the people I worked with there. Always reminded me a little of the sitcom WKRP. Some interesting characters. I guess K106 cut into their listenership. I was pretty much gone by that time.

I later worked at WHSY (Y-104) in Hattiesburg while in college, but it seems they are out of business as well. I was only there briefly, however.

License was lost last year at WHNY. Pretty sad, that station had
a history from 1938. WHSY was lost when the Holt bankruptcy
closed and the AM wasn't taken by anyone. The FM became WXRR
and is still going. Holt now owns what was WBKH-AM 950, now WHSY.
Celebrated his 93rd birthday a week or so ago. Story was in the paper.

I draw your attention to a previous forum, now resting on page 7 here in the Mississippi Board, captioned "WHNY Mccomb officially gone." Last comment on that thread was submitted Aug 2 of last year. As that discussion topic generated 52 comments, I submit if you go back and revisit that item, it will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about WHNY.
