Who are the best Engineers in the Mid-South?

Who are the best Engineers in the Mid-South? Who's the best contract engineer/firm? Do the big companies allow engineering employees to "moonlight" for smaller stations?

Bobby Dotson is a major leaguer...especially on the IT side. Gary Condree is another. These days, an engineer has to have as much knowledge about computers and operating systems as they have about transmitters and STL's. The expansion on the digital side of this business has complicated the job. "Old School" guys who could tune stuff by ear have seen the future pass them by.

He's retired from broadcasting and now engineers airport navigation systems and aeronautical communications networks...and is quite up on digital and networking, thank you.

;D

I agree with Snazzy Jazzy...Palmer Johnson is one of the best broadcast (am & fm) engineers I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He knows the technical stuff inside out plus computers and operating systems. And, he's really a nice guy, too. He also has the ability to work WITH program directors instead of against them. I highly recommend him...if he's not completely snowed under with the many stations he keeps sounding great.

I know PJ from work he did for Bill Pollack at WPLX and some contract work that he has done for WYPL. He can work with both the really old stuff and the really new stuff. He's done stuff for countless stations in southeast Missouri, west Tennessee, and eastern Arkansas.

Two enthisiastic "thumbs up" for Gary Condrey. Great guy to work with and as sharp as they come.
