Most everyone would agree that sometimes it doesn't matter if an radio owner is indie or not.
Every since consolidation, more smaller guys have adapted the bottom line models of the big guys, to build empires on a relative scale.

Every once and awhile you spot the exceptions (at least those who profess to be exceptions) posting ads for air talent. I have never had the good fortune of finding one to know but I believe that there must be some groups out there who are mavericks and revolutionaries at heart and are applying that to their stations with some success.

So who, of the indies in North Carolina's larger markets, walks the walk and treats talented people with respect?

WRAL and Capitol Broadcasting come to mind

I would second that. WRAL has been leader for quite sometime. But they are a rare breed. My initial response was " that is just a dream" since way too many broadcasting companies don't treat their talented people with respect. Wait that could be said for practically all companies in the USA. The employee is for the most part forgotten and viewd as a necessary evil. The company has to have a certain amount of employees to even function, but if the big executives had their way there would be no employees and they make ALL the money. They don't realize that technology cannot replace all jobs though.
