Who benefits from Olbermann leaving

Interesting article at Huffington Post (which is all Olbermann today):

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/21/keith-olbermann-countdown-over_n_812506.html

The end of the article asks who benefits from this change at MSNBC. O'Donnell? Or how about Chris Matthews? He was the big star at MSNBC before Olbermann, and has really taken a back seat lately. Maybe this opens the door for him to come charging back.

What isn't mentioned is that The Comedy Channel has really created a block of progressive talk (albeit not totally serious) with Jon Stewart and other shows. TCC is hurt by the fact that it doesn't have as wide carriage as MSNBC, but there are a lot of progressive comedians around. Bill Maher does his HBO specials, but he'd be a possible way to go for MSNBC. Although he comes with some of the same baggage as Olbermann.

Fox News benefits. Bigger audience (albeit slightly) for O'Reilly... You know, kinda like those people who hate Howard Stern but listened because "I want to hear what he's going to say next."

Sorry...I meant who at MSNBC. Olbermann's leaving creates a huge vacuum that will be filled somehow. Who will it be?

I find it interesting that part of the settlement is for Olbermann to keep his mouth shut and
not reveal why it happened........what went down. Clearly there is something about this that
MSNBC wishes to keep from getting out. It may take awhile, but eventually it WILL BE KNOWN.

Nobody benefits as far I can see. He is intelligent and witty. I'm sorry certain pundits compared him to O'Reilly. Maybe he can come to Tampa and do play-by-play for the Rays. That makes as much as sense as the Rays just signing Damon and Ramirez.

So true. Keith's comments were so brief and unrevealing, there must have been some sort of deal made. Whether this means Keith can get back on the air somewhere sooner than we expect, remains to be seen.

As to who benefits? Tough question, but I will step out with the opinion that CNN gains. However, CNN has nowhere to go but up. So it may be a moot point.

Revealing: they let Keith say goodbye on the air. They must have known that it would be quick and not controversial. That is why I think a deal was made, probably beneficial to Keith. I predict Keith will be back on the air well before the quoted "two year non-compete". Where? Well, that is the real question at this point.
