Just took a spin around the local dials as of 2:45 PM Wednesday. Some observations:
WNCT 1070 must be getting some water in their satellite feedhorns. Bill O'Reilly sounds like he's occasionally surfacing from underwater. Lots of dead air with distorted audio.
WDLX 930 is off the air completely, but I'm guessing it's not from a power failure because WTOW 1320, just up the road from them, is on with regular religious programming. WOOW 1340 is likewise on with their regular programming.
WGHB 1250 is on the air with regular programming, but I'm sure they'll have some local information later in the day.
Public Radio East has dropped its regular NPR talk shows. Its stations are simulcasting WTEB 89.3 in New Bern, which is giving regular updates.
I can remember listening to 1070 back in the early 1970s when a hurricane (I forget its name) was directly over Pitt County. They dropped regular music programming and the announcers were taking calls live on the air, giving updates and generally doing their best to be a central source of information. I think they even simulcasted it on the FM.
So who gets the laurels for best coverage so far?
