Does anyone really care about HD radio when statistics have shown fewer people are listening to radio today; especially on the AM dial?
This reminds me of all the hoopla about AM stereo. I remember “experts” saying how AM stereo would revolutionize broadcasting and make AM more competitive with FM. How many stations spent the money to change over to AM stereo and what was the end result? Very little in my opinion.

There is a lot more to HD radio than there was for AM Stereo. But most people are not talking about HD AM, most are talking about how it will effect the FM band.
 
Everyone have to purchase new receivers. This was the case for AM Stereo and is the case for HD. The problem is that there were four compeeting systems for AM Stereo. the FCC should've adopted one sooner and the manufactures should've made receivers that could produce the higher frequency's that AM mono and AM Stereo stations broadcast at. No wonder noone cares about AM anymore. Tha'st part of the reason. as for HD, the same thing again, people have to purchase new receivers. Radio geeks like us may go through with it but the average joe? My parents don't even have sattlelight let alone HD. AM Stereo came with the cryslor, and if AM is on they do comment how good it sounds in that car compared to in the house for example. However, we did not by the car becaus of the AM Stereo. I wasn't aware of the technology yet and not many stations broadcast stereo reception on AM a anymore. Those that do are few and far between. Around here we don't get any that have music programming that my parents or I would enjoy. We dont get WREF from richfield, CT. FM sounds good enough for most people. What improovement does HD FM have other then the fact that we get more music channels and even they too will have a spotload eventually? Don't get me long I love AM Stereo and have purchased radios that could receive this transmition z and I'll probably purchase one for HD soon too. but the average joe is content with FM in the car, and when they're not in the car radio doesn't go on much. Perhaps at work it does... Okay this is turning into quite the rant now.... <P ID="signature">______________
