Who Did CC Fire this time around?

Haven't heard anything yet in NE Ohio.

It looks like mostly (mostly) the smaller markets are affected, so I don't know if Oak Tree is under fire or not... now Freedom Avenue or South Avenue, we'll see.

Here's the list from the latest OMW blog update. I think that's all the damage in Northeast Ohio. Haven't heard out of Oak Tree, yet, but I don't think they're affected in this round.

AKRON/CANTON
————
Rock WRQK/106.9 afternoon driver Todd “Fishhead” Fisher

ASHLAND/MANSFIELD
—————–
Country WNCO-FM/101.3 midday host-Talk WNCO/1340 program director Gene Davis
Production director Bryan Moore

YOUNGSTOWN
———-
Rock WNCD/93.3 and WAKZ/95.9 program director Matt Spatz
Board operator Todd Heston
- Classic hits WBBG/106.1 program director Jeff Kelly adds duties as WNCD program director, and Hot AC WMXY/98.9 program director Steve Granato adds WAKZ duties to his plate.

------------

That's a tough list. Gene Davis was a fixture in Mid-Ohio radio! Gunther and company would be wise to find some place for him.

Matt Spatz is a long-time OMW reader, though we haven't heard from him lately.

And of course, "Fishhead" also co-hosted sports WARF/1350's local afternoon show for a while with Ken Carman, now at WKRK/92.3 "92.3 The Fan" in evenings.

"Fishhead" also did updated during Romes show on 1350, maybe even during Dan Patrick, but I can remember. But he definately did the Rome updates.

Yeah, that's right, he did that in the runup to the afternoon drive show when he was doing that. He was 10 AM-3 PM on 106.9 in this period as well.

They will sooner or later. :'(

I was looking for RIFs related to the Metro/Total Traffic merger, some of which happened in other markets (CC finally started making those moves). But both Metro and Total Traffic were pretty lean here to begin with.

TRI is reporting this morning that larger markets could be next, going through the same meeting/flash drive process that the medium/smaller markets went through.

Tom says the standard could be what he says it was for the medium/smaller markets - if you're not in the top 3, you could be gone.

WIOT/Toledo PD and Prod Director Sid Siddall and WIOT middayer Micki Goldberg. A WCKY/Toledo staffer and a producer/news staffer from WSPD.

Two friends at Total Traffic based in Detroit downsized; Willoughby native Kelly Carter and Lena Antoon. Both of whom did traffic for Cle stations.

The Dayton cluster took some hits including top rated rock WTUE. Cluster lost two in production and some on air.

*Dayton OM and WTUE PD Tony Tilford was WMMS PD late 90s. "TNT" is a good programmer.

I haven't really tracked Toledo recently...is Micki based in Toledo and VTing into WBWR/Columbus?

Rechecked All Access' list, and there are some major and large market Metro/Total Traffic folks there. No Clevelanders listed, tho. As I said before, the local traffic operations are already pretty lean.

All Access' list tabs WNCO/Ashland to Canton. It must be how they have it listed on their map, I told them WNCO wasn't in Canton. :D

Gene Davis actually checked in with a comment on our "Layoffs" post:

"I had 24 wonderful years at WNCO and will miss those folks I worked with every day."

How [insert your own adjective here] would it be if Martz Radio ends up hiring WIOT's castoffs?

Heh.

Well, "The Bone" is still going at 94.3, not facing the same issues as 104.7 did with WIOT (IIRC, 94.3 has a Canadian station fairly nearby.) It sounds like the kind of thing Tim would do.

CC's Ashland/Mansfield cluster has no actual news department anymore. For WNCO and WMAN, John Amherin FTPs the morning-drive newscasts from Freedom Avenue - and is credited as a co-host of WMAN's morning show - while WTAM staffers FTP them for the rest of the day.

Unfortunately, it's been the case since January (Tom Moore mentioned it on his FB page a while back).

Working in radio today is like walking around with a ticking hand grenade which could explode and destroy you and your family at any moment.

I have no idea how people live with such stress.

WMAN hasn't added John to its web site anywhere I can see...maybe on purpose.

The schedule, updated May 17, 2011, says this:

http://www.am1400.com/pages/programming_schedule.html

6am-9am Rusty Cates and theWMAN Morning News
with Tommy Barnes, Eric Hansen & Ed Gutchal
Local News Updates at :05, :30 & on the Quarter Hours
Rush Limbaugh Morning Update at 6:25am and 8:25am
Sean Hannity Morning Minute at 7:25am
Mike Huckabee at 6:55am, 7:55am and 8:55am

Listed later during the "Sports Grill" show is board op/utility player Josh Bowman... we hear he was also cut in this round.

None of the local news items on the site are credited to John, or for that matter, anyone.

Huh. It must have been removed, because I do remember seeing his name on there beforehand. I guess it was reorganized or something quite a bit ago. Or maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me.

It also looks like WMRN/1490 Marion axed their "Evening Tradio" program at 6pm. That's big; "Tradio" has been a staple on WMRN for decades.

I mentioned WTUE's Tony "TNT" Tilford the other day. Looks like he was shown the door as well. Apparently being Top 3 isn't good enough.

so WNCD fired Matt Spatz but kept Fast Freddy? Interesting. He is the only live jock on the station now. The Todd Fisher firing at WRQK was also interesting as the guy started as an intern in the early 90s. Is there anyone live on the air at WRQK now? ::)

re: Tilford. Egg on my face. I got bad intel (via the Cinci board). He's still there and a RPM (Regional Program Manager). Tony's a good one. Good to see he's still there.
