Who do I need to notify about this

At my new home in Coatesville, PA, I do not have cable and cannot hear the Phillies on 1210 very well on my BRAND NEW LG stereo. I tried moving the antenna around and 830 WEEU and that was even worse. WOGL, KYW, WYSP, and WIP came in just fine. What should I do about this?

As you've posted this you have a computer and an internet connection.

If you have a PC get Winamp and you can listen to WPHT online. It's an AOL/CBS station. If you have a mac you can tune in with Reciva.com.

The games are not broadcast on the internet because the MLB wants you to pay to watch them. Get cable.

Firstly I need to point out I'm from the UK, and have no knowledge of local reception issues.

Don't rush to get cable just yet!!

Silly questions, but you are switching your computer off when you try to tune in? PCs are terrible for interfering with AM radio. Also your Wifi may be interfering. Indeed anything electrical has the potential to do that, so the more you can turn off the better (be sensible!)

You LG stereo may be brand new, but that doesn't mean it has a good AM tuner. A dedicated portable may be better, and you can proberbly pick one up for a few dollars second hand at a yard sale or a car boot sale (do you call them that? informal outdoor markets I mean)

Portables are rotatable, so you can turn them to get the best signal, and move them to the optimum place in the room. Running them on battery may be better than mains- and AM radio uses very little juice.

I recommend Sony or Roberts for portables. Some people swear by the Grundig Yacht Boy but the only one I could see on ebay US was over a 100 bucks.

Good luck!!

I'm too late to edit again, but I use the Sony ICF 303 which is a great kitchen/everyday radio. Sadly I can't see a US version, but this http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAMD-NEW-SONY-...619?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1a6223e3 seems to be the nearest equivlant.

I'm a bit loathe to recommend you spend that much without knowing the exact nature of the problem, though. What type of interference are you getting? Are there other stations on the channel, or are you getting buzzing or static type noises or is the signal just weak?

Get an HD radio. You can listen to WPHT on WYSP HD-3. Hopefully if you get WYSP's analog signal well, you will also get their digital signal and you'll be able to listen 1210 and the Phillies in FM stereo.

If this LG stereo comes with the 4 to 5 inch AM loop antenna, then I would suggest get the Grundig AM loop (from Radio Shack) or Terk Advantage loop, place it beside the LG's antenna and tune the aftermarket loop to 1210. Or buy a Sangean PR-D5, CCradio 2, SW or EP model since they all have much better AM reception. The Sony ICF-38 may also do well.

Don't forget the Superadio 3 or the Grundig S350. When on vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina a few years ago, WPHT had a decent signal at night where I stayed, in the town of Duck. I got an eye-popping lesson in salt-water coverage. 1020, 1340, and 1400 in Atlantic City were local-like during the day!

AM is a pain to receive with all the wireless, fluorescent and other electrical interference in the typical household today. The AM tuner sections of component systems are generally an afterthought. An external AM antenna can turn a bad AM tuner into a usable one. A good portable radio can also help by providing better reception under adverse conditions and you can move it around the room and house to find noise free spots to improve reception. I've heard less than positive things about the latest incarnation of the Super Radio 3 - now branded as RCA. I've heard better things about this analog unit.

I'd hesitate when considering an HD radio, a technology whose future is uncertain and whose available hardware is spotty in quality and availability. I have the Sony HD tuner which I understand is discontinued but appears to still be available via online merchants and is a bargain at under $100 - a good analog tuner as well, should HD radio wither. A web radio or the aforementioned audio players for the computer offer more content from more sources and sport a better future outlook. (Though I don't know if WPHT webcasts The Phillies.)

I have an HD radio. WOGL HD 3/4 where the Phillies are on is spotty at best. WYSP HD 2 & 3 come in a little better than that.

Sorry, I meant WOGL HD-3 not WYSP HD-3.

You may also want to try WDEL, 1150, in Wilmington.

I am a fan of Grundig radios for AM reception. Have 3 of them and love 'em.

If you can get the station in your car outside your house, you should be able to get it on a simple decent desktop radio, (which are harder to find now.) I have a simple Sony radio that plugs in or runs on batteries. You can walk around your home and experiment with the reception. AM radios have built-in antennas, so you have to turn the whole radio for the best signal. The telescoping antenna is for FM only, so you might as well leave that folded up. AM reception is an entirely different kind of flying, all together (Airplane ;D) It's all about experimenting. You might end up having to put your radio in an odd place.

PC's and TV's are notorious for wiping out AM. I also discovered that my cellphone charger interferes, too. If you're in an apartment or close to another house, there's no telling what you're up against.

As a baseball fan, I'm among the few that still enjoy picking up distant games on AM at night. Glad the Cardinals are back on KMOX!

1150 comes up even worse than 1210 for me.

Are you still using your LG radio? I'm becoming convinced it's a dud, AM wise. Are there any other radios in the house you can try? If not borrow one....
