Who do people REALLY listen to?

Saw this in an early post but though it was worth some comment. With the ole PPM headin our way in turns out the ARB DIary ain't all that accurate. Shocking I know
So what stations do y'all think don't get the credit they deserve ??? Here is this cowboys list: KBSG, I bet lots more people listen than admit it. Same goes for KBKS which i hear in a lot more places that numbers might indicate. I think the WOLF and KNBQ also get more tune in but the diary favors KMPS so they get mentioned more :-\
Now the reverse cowboys. Who gets more listening than they deserve: KUOW, KIRO and KOMO all get votes cause people think they should listen to these stations. Same goes for THE MOUNTAIN. KCMS and KUBE who have fans that say they listen more than they probably do. Everybody else gets about what they deserve in this cowboys "humble opinion" ;) (sorry radio-prof) Might see WARM and STAR get a few more guys cause no sane guy would admit to listening to girl stations ;D

Anyone else ???

Well, it all depends on who get the PPMs. But I agree KBSG and KBKS have far more listeners than the paper diaries admit. As I mentioned before, I don't know who else but delinquent kids and welfare moms listen to KUBE anymore. Everybody else has grown up and moved on. I honestrly think KUBE's actual numbers are GROSSLY inflated.

KPLZ and KRWM have male listeners, usually residing on Capitol Hill. And almost everybody I saw at Fisher Plaza last week had AMAZING hair.

Wouldn't surprise me when the smoke clears that KZOK is #1. I heard them EVERYWHERE in Seattle last week....

KBKS, KBSG, KPLZ, KRWM, KZOK will be the biggest benefactors of the PPM based on data from current PPM markets and assuming none of these stations change format parameters.
KUOW, KQMV, KUBE, KCMS and all AM stations will see the biggest declines in core demographics. Country is down in Houston but was never a factor in NY or Philadelphia so the jury is still out on this format parameter. All indications are country leans much older in the PPM. These are not humble opinions just facts based on PPM data in four markets.

It should also be noted that established or heritage morning shows are tending to score very well in the PPM. In the four markets testing in PPM analysis shows like Imus, Scott Shannon in NY. R@R and Sam Malone in Houston, the Killer B show and John Debella in Philly all saw nice bumps in PPm data. With morning cume is down in the PPM heritage talent becomes more important in driving Time Spent Listening. This could mean a renewed emphasis on heritage morning shows and developing new shows in my humble opinion. Shannon in NY, Malone in Houston, and Debella in Philly are examples of talent that have been in markets since the early 1980's but had lost luster in the diary world. In PPM reality they still have huge numbers of core listeners. Radio may get back to the basics of good music programming and talent. That would be refreshing in my less than humble view.

Country radio's biggest age core is between 30-70 (the widest of all genres). The vast majority of country radio listeners do not live in Seattle or inside any major city proper (even fewer in the downtown cores), but in the 'burbs and outlying rural areas.

Like I say, it depends where the PPMs go. And the outcome can affect KMPS and KKWF either fabulously or disasterously....

PPM will tell the tale. My bet is the strong stations remain strong in the proper demographics. 18-34 will still have KUBE on top. 25-54 will have KMPS, KZOK and KISW on top. 25-54 women will have KMPS, KRWM and KPLZ on top. 25-54 men will have KZOK, KISW and KMPS on top. In all PPM markets to date the top three in key demos have pretty much remained on top. 12+ and 6+ are all over the place with stations jumping from 14th to 3rd and 3rd to 14th. When you dig deeper the numbers are different but the top flight stations remain solid in their core demographics.

Mornings tends to be off across the board in the PPM. Established shows do seem to have some growth. Bodes well for T-Man, Bob Rivers, Ichabod, Kent and Alan and BJ Shea. I agree that KRWM and KPLZ will be adding some male listeners and KZOK will pick up some women. Good consistent stations with strong morning programming still win.

I agree with ya to a point. I think KBKS and the WOLF will do much better than ya might think ;) While established morning shows are kickin some PPM butt some new shows are doing okay too. Guess we will find out in about 10 months 8)
