Who Do You Miss?

Who do you miss?

This board has been quiet so let’s see if this generates anything discussion:

Who do you miss hearing on the air full-time or who should be working full-time?

I think Joe Bauer is a great communicator and personality. I don’t know where he would fit in 2008 but the guy always impressed me with the ability to tell a story.

1. JM on the FM in the PM
2. Keeping Pace with Cindy
3. KKOS from Carlsbad at 95.9
4. Not only Joe Bauer, but Jerry G. Bishop spinning stories
5. John Coleman (at KOGO)
6. Chris Cantore
7. Ken Copper and Cynthia Heath-Kerrigan at the oldies station
8. The pure genius of Duncan and Mel to remind us what radio became

1) Is that the same Jerry G, from WKYC?

2) Is JM also known as JM in the AM from KQV Pittsburgh and WPOP Hartford?

Yep that's the same Jerry G: he finished his radio and TV career in San Diego, coming here in 1979 to work at KCBQ - he then did TV and for about 28 years or so has owned restaurants in Seaport Village along the San Diego waterfront.

JM is Jim Mcinnes who worked in Madison WI before coming to San Diego in 1973.

I personally miss Charlie and Harrigan. Jack Woods and Paul Menard are pure genius!

I also wish that Shotgun Tom was on a station that could be picked up in San Diego most of the time.

Also I would like to see J.B. Mitchell from 13K back on the air. He is an amazing DJ!

1037 the planet.the vinal restng place with jim mcinnes.cindy pace,, burger and prescott,oh ya...sue delaney!!!!!a old station some people might not remember ks 103 fm..and one from Los Angeles the boomer joe servantes..

The News Brothers were 15 minutes of daily genius.

Let us not forget that The News Brothers - good as they were - merely continued an act first created by Brad Messer and Brent Seltzer who, in the early 70's, did the the mid-day "Brad & Brent News and Comment" which at times was #1 in the ratings and was outstanding radio. Brad and Brent moved to KMET in LA in 1975. Wish I could find a tape of B&B on the KGB.

Thanks Bob. It's good to read that the history is still remembered by some in the market. Today's stars owe a lot of 'tude to the founders of the present morning shows in the market. As written here, some are just phoning in the show now and it's hard pressed to find something original. The Mikey Show delivers. So does AJ's Playhouse. I like Madison's delivery and interviews on KPRI. Chip Franklin has moments of genius. The rest of them, at times, seem stuck in the glory years and the bits are wearing thin. Mikey's P1 Army knows, the Playhouse listeners know, and those who find Madison ... enjoy the drive.

The DS&C show also owes a lot to the News Brothers and Brad and Brent, which is probably why I've never been enamored with DS&C since KGB has had others do much better irreverent radio.

And owe, some people may not remember, but the best New Brothers were Gabriel Wisdom and Jeff Prescott. Jeff teamed up with Nike Berger later, but he was just not in the same league as Gabe and Jeff.

Bob I remember when you were on the Planet with Benny. It was a solid performing show.

As for the rest, remember the platform was lowered for Duncan and Mel.

Bobby Ocean and I wrote a radio production column for Dan O'Day's O'Liners back around 1980 when we both worked for KHJ. Dean Goss and I did nights together at KCBQ in 1979 and Gary and I did afternoons at the original KPRI 106.5 FM in 1978. Chris Cane never had the pleasure of working with me.
