I saw this topic on another board and thought it be a good topic for our board. So who do you miss hearing on the air in phoenix? Any stations you missing hearing or variations of formats you missing hearing in phoenix?

The Zone (modern ac/alternative era)
Big O and Dukes
Energy Arizona (I know it has only been a day but it already is not the same)
Kid Stevens on KTAR
Chuck Powell
Dave Dameshek (loved the local shows on free fm)
Scott Drake (loved the morning banter with Detour Dan)
Free FM (even though it had many problems, was nice to have it on the air)

azenergyfan:

I agree with you on most of what you wrote. Here's what I would add to that list-

Toaster Talk on KTAR (this board just isn't the same without it!)
Aunt Edna
Bill Heywood
Jim Sharpe
Mary McCann, The Bone Mamma
Valerie Knight
Colin Boyd

That's what I have so far.

Jonathon Brandmeier on KZZP Mesa, KZZP-FM Mesa/Phoenix.
(The first time.)

Angela Allen on (sing it...) "solid gold KOOL-FM."

Network feeds on 5 kHz--or worse, 3.5 kHz--Telco lines.
(Maybe not.)

KCCF 1100 Cave Creek/Phoenix.

55/KOY.

AM before I-CRAP. (When you could DX.)

AM stereo.

Pre-1996 ownership limits.

KRUX
KRIZ
KBBC
Bruce Jacobs and Mike Golic on KGME
Jeff Kennedy
Sunny 97
Bob Mohan
KTAR Action News
KTAR's short-lived all-news competitor, KPHX
W. Steven Martin
KDKB on AM
Jazz on 92.3

Liz Boyle
W. Steven Martin
Sammy Sherwood
Dennis Mitchell (live weekend overnights)
Dave Shannon
Evan O.
Charlie Kendall
...and the KOOL that got me hooked: "Oldies 94.5 KOOL FM".

Special recognition: KRIZ 1230, a station I never got to listen to, live!

KRUX
KRIZ
KOOL Gold 960
KPTY Party 103.9
KOOL FM when it played real oldies
Bill Gardner
Greg Burns
KHOT105.9 Jammin Oldies
KTWC 103.5
KMJK Magic 106.9

Energy AZ. It is missed already.

The old sound of The Edge when it had cool imaging and "The All Request Lunch" and the station didn't sound so aggro. It was the perfect blend of alt. for Phoenix, with a little Bob Marley, some Punk, and the alt. hits big and small - it likely would have done very well in the PPM ratings era.

Dr. Science. Talk radio that was fun.

Ben & Brian. Didn't always succeed, but at least they tried to make you laugh every day.

KNIX before Clear Channel ran it into the ground.

KDKB when it was a real album rock station.

ed phillips' swap shop on ktar.

i'll trade my am/fm radio for a toaster

One of the AM stations I worked for did the same thing. Now that was good radio!! ;D

All Comedy Radio KPHX

Scott "just shoot the Mexicans" Connor

KOOL Gold 9~Sixty

The Chickboss

Y95, Quiet 95, KRFM

Jones & Boze

Dodgersball on Kay Oh Why

The Satellite Sistahs

All Xmas Music just one day before Xmas

H.J. Listiak with "The world according to H.G."
May he rest in peace. :)

sorry, I meant H.G. Listiak. I never could type lol! :D

Of course, Duke Shirlaw and the Middle of the Damned Night show.

Leykis doing Dial a Date was fun (back when he still had talent)

I miss Matt Gerson playing 8 year old interviews about the 1996 election..

1060 KUKQ (during its R&B years as well as their first go-round with alternative)
The three-way Top 40 wars of 1989-90
Kid Radio 1400 K-Sun (with R&B overnights)
AP radio blocks on 1010 KXEM (minus the repetitive comedy shorts at :15 past)
Michael Hagerty on KTAR weekends
"The Edge" when it was only on 106.3 FM

and (off topic), "Santa Watch" reports on KPHO-TV5!

In no particular order (and including TV as well as radio)... Ned Foster, Rick D'Amico, Craig Henderson, Dave Patterson, Claren Scott, Julie Staley-Rodriquez, Michael Owens, Steve Krafft, Leigh Hermann, John Hook, Kevin McCabe, Linda Williams, Dave Otto. Yeah, I know, some are still working; one has passed away; and some are no longer on the air - but I've been living in Connecticut for the past six years and only have memories of working with or partying with these pros. (There are a couple of more close friends that I am in touch with regularly, so they weren't named, and probably a few that I missed, too.)

A lot of great names on the preceding posts. Cheers to the wisdom of the posters.
