Who doesn't like the changes KOMO has made recently?

I'm still undecided about them putting more news before trafic, I don't think I mind. However, they say 10 minutes of nonstop news and information at the top and bottom of the hour, and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. They have 9 minutes, then they go to a couple commercials before sports. Does anyone else not approve of this? When did it start? I was out of town starting on the fourth and got back last week and noticed this, did not before I left.

Really? You don't like all the recent changes because they shorted you on 60 seconds of news once? And haven't they always had traffic on the :04s?

I like the changes, mostly, but I've liked almost everything on KOMO I've heard for years. I love hearing Gregg Hersholt on the air locally again, I've always enjoyed Manda and Jane, too. I really love Tom Hutyler (sp) and adore hearing Ana Kelly regularly. I don't know the circumstances and hope not many people were let go or downsized. (I know, naive and hopeful) I've never liked the brutality with which changes in media happen.

I don't understand the bragging about 10 minute's worth of non-stop news-is that a big deal? It sounds funny to me. I also really don't care for "what happens next, happens hEEEEEre". So, that Empire State Building shooting happened not in NYC but in the KOMO newsroom? That seems dumb and presumptuous. As you can tell, I also don't care for the delivery of the last word-very pedantic and unnatural.

Overall, things sound younger, fresher and newer to me.

Well, I usually don't expect any commercials until after the sports, I don't see why they need to interupt the programming for 60 seconds when the promos are saying you should get 10 minutes of nonstop news and information. To me, KOMO's spot load has always been heavy as is. The ones that really get me are the ones that say "check in 4, 5, 6 times a day." If you do that you are likely to hear the same stories over and over. I usually listen for an hour or less and I'm up to date. At a maximum, an hour in the morning, an hour in the afternoon and headlines before going to bed is about all I will listen, otherwise the coverage gets too repetative for me.

While those are some quality people you mentioned, they have been on Seattle radio for decades. I don't know how one can say they sound younger and fresher with that sort of tenure, but to each his own.

Bottom line: they sound better than they've ever sounded and they're picking up traction, especially in morning drive.

You do have that right, seems as if with every change they make they sound a little better, just the last set kind of threw me a bit. It could be because I was out of the market for so long too, I don't think I have ever been out of the Seattle market for that long at one time before. The only other change I've noticed is that KPLZ seems to have gotten some new jingles, but I don't mind these. Seems like it's 9 minutes though, not 10 these days.

Whispers from 4th and Denny indicate more significant changes are coming next week at KOMO and KVI. Anybody heard anything?

You'll find it's an interesting weekend for Fisher Radio!
You'll find a very familiar component!

So by now many of you have seen the press release that KVI is returning to Conservative Talk.
Comments?

KVI spent so many years building a brand of being the conservative talk outlet, it's hard for them to escape that. It doesn't matter if you play Oldies or have a different kind of talk, especially on the AM band. As mentioned in the other thread, it's probably the best move KVI could have done. No Limbaugh, but I would bet they will aggressively go after him come contract time at 770.
