Who done it? Arbitron Phase 2 - caught!

A good -- fill in - format for the Fresno - Visalia - Bakersfield Market areas - would be a 50's and 60's rock station -- like KYNO AM -- but on FM in Stereo.

I said it before in another thread, John Osterland and Art Laboe should work it out-

And why, they don't subscribe to trends....

What a tool (err FOOL).

#1 Trends become books.
#2 Agencies use ratings (now who operates a large ad agency?).

JO

You think it really matters? I've run into a number of local media buyers who couldn't read a book if they tried. There's a good deal of "If I listen to it, it must be good" thinking in this market.

I don't believe music stations should be on AM, it just doesn't sound right. FM stereo is best for music and AM for talk.
Music started out on AM

Of course. That's because FM wasn't around too much until the early to mid 60's, Like phone booths were on every street corner. Now there are almost nonexistent.

lol OK If you ever have an AM to program be sure and don't run music.
If I had one- well, I don't think I would want to be the 5th sports station or 5th conservative talker. Foreign language brokers might wanna rent my $ignal ;) hmm

My Meet the Beatles LP is mono and it sounds just fine. Just as did the original KYNO. Given the option of no oldies or AM, I can handle AM with no problem to/from work each day.

Question - anyone with access to the book know which daypart KYNO is their strongest?

I grew with KYNO and it's sounds fine to me, I wake up to it on my alarm clock at 7AM just like 40 years ago.

There's a Radio Disney station in my market that sounds excellent on AM... in HD. :)

Art has his own station why would he work with osterland?

Anyone want to get this discussion back to the subject of ratings manipulation by a supposedly stalwart, pillar of the community broadcaster? Or, do y'all prefer to pretend you're all fairy god-princess programming gurus? If it's that later, start a new thread (or resurrect one of the 100 other old thread on the subject of a oldies station in Fresno. Sheese, what a bunch of myopic syncophants.

I thought that this tread was about AM 1430 and FM 99.3 - trying to alter the ratings in Fresno. What would you call the two formats of KYNO 1430 and FM 99.3. For that matter -- where does KOKO FM fit into the format mix -- and the ratings ??

I know what, put KYNO on 99.3, since KSOF is so dominate over KJWL in the ratings.

Most cases of what is called "Ratings Distortion and Bias" are not sanctioned, initiated or approved by station management.

What usually happens is that an employee of a radio station is contacted, denies media affiliation, and accepts diaries. When the book comes out, a station may review the diaries (in Columbia) or review the data in PD Advantage or other sources and file a review request with Arbitron. Arbitron will reverify diarykeepers if there seems to be an issue, and if they determine that media households were involved and... only if the change affects the rank of other stations in the market... will reissue the report, tabulated without the offending diaries.

In these cases, it's almost always a staffer who wants to favor "the home team" who commits this violation of Arbitron policy. Some companies will dismiss anyone who does this kind of thing, and nearly everyone posts the Arbitron Distortion and Bias poster in the station.
