Who else was there?

I was listening to WHK 1420 AM in Cleveland, Ohio just after 5:00pm EST. For short instances, I heard two stations underneath.
One was airing "The Sean Hannity Show", and the other was a music station playing an early 1960s tune... I think it was "Venus In Blue Jeans" by Jimmy Clanton.

Hannity at 5:
WCED DuBois, PA? [PA stations seem to be getting picked up often these days]
WACK Finger Lakes area, NY?

Oldies:
there's a station in VA that is "Oldies 1420."
WKCW 22kW-D. Less than .5kW-N Warrenton VA

I think I also heard WKCW 1420 Monday also playing "Tender Trap" by Frank Sinatra, and then "She Loves You" by the Beatles around 7:15 PM. They gave a 703 area code number in a spot.

On Tuesday, I heard an Oldies station on 1170 bleeding through WWVA playing "Theme From A Summer Place" by The Lettermen and then "December, 1963" by The Four Seasons around 6:45 PM. Couldn't figure that one out either.

More likely than not it was WKCW. They have rotated a LOT of Sinatra into their playlist as of a few weeks ago. They also have a habit of playing several of the same artist in a row too. No announcers and the only commercials are for a religious retreat, and Friday Night church thing for kids. I don't know how on earth they make any money with that station.

I can pick them up pretty clearly where I am at an hour South of their towers as of late.

I believe that was the spot I heard. I was confused because both the Oldies and Christian formats are not only common, but now almost interchangeable or even dayparted or block programmed on many AMs, along with Classic Country and Conservative Talk. I thought it might be another station as the spot was after a fade.

Funny thing about WKCW this morning around sunrise: I tuned them in as I usually do for my drive North that takes me right past their towers. As I drove along, there was a nice clear carrier, but nothing else. Stayed like that until around noon today.

A couple weeks ago, there was a skip and repeat thing that went unchecked for about 4 hours. About a week ago they had a habit of playing the same song twice in a row and it happened at least three times on my morning drive. They've forgotten to power down at night on occasion and sometimes not power up in the morning. Then all the commercials have disappeared except for the ones I mentioned in my previous post. I can't help but think they may be in the running for one of the worst sounding stations at that rate...... ;D I wonder what's next?

I don't know, have you heard about our lovely little station out here in Phoenix that also airs an oldies format and is humbly called "The Lumberyard"? We got the current Radio-Info record for longest thread on this very peculiar station that does all sorts of whacky things. You could read more about their shenanigans here: http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=113344.0

Happy reading! ;D

To add to the WKCW list, last night there was a bit of an opening and some of the really low watter, nightimers were coming in here. WKCW was playing no music, and the two commercials they play were just repeating over and over for at least the hour I kept scanning across it.

Oh, and I was picking up a station last night around midnight that ID'ed as WILL and from Chicago. I can only find a WILL in Urbanna IL at 580 KHz that is an NPR affiliate. This one was definitely playing religious music. Unfortunately I was scanning the dial and didn't pay any attention to the frequency they were on, only that they were around 1100-1200 or so.

Sounds like you heard WYLL 1160.

WYLL does make into VA along with WOBM in NJ, both with rather poor signals. The other night I heard someone on 1160 say "KSL" and then "Washington" even though I don't know if I really did hear the Salt Lake City station in VA.

Good point! I was probably half asleep by then and it was a pretty noisy signal, so WYLL may have been the ID. :D
