in other markets Dec and Jan are the prime times for stations to flip formats. Many stunt with Christmas music and then flip. kMTT went early and HOT-FM is the top chr in seattle for now with an audience younger than kiss or movin. Seems to have helped star and warm who maybe picked up some kmtt audience. didn't help click or the end much.

why does no one attack kisw the top station in men and adults and kzok second in men and adults? seems for a town that is the home of grunge and rock it is an obvious hole or am i missing something. prime candidates would be CLICK which is nothing, kiss or kube (clear channel has two CHR's and both are getting beat by hot and movin) the end could adjust or even jack could rock more to attack kisw and help kzok, their sister station. Seems like lots of opportunity.

I for one would like a rock music option in mornings while kzok is all talk, so is kisw and kjr. Same for afternoons. click is the seemingly number one choice with star and warm cleaning their clock in women 25-54 in all prime demos. with now fm in the mix there is hardly room for four ac's. might even help movin and warm a bit in their cluster for hubbard. what if kube was put on the 102.9 signal covering the south end and the core area for kube listeners? 93.3 could then rock. the move would hurt kzok and Kisw helping KJR-fm. it would make 102.9 stronger and also create one less competitor for kiss.

this time of year is always fun in radio in every market. Wonder if someone will go early and stunt with xmas music???
 
I think KJAQ Jack-FM is fine right now. I like their mix of music - when I hear the same crap over and over on KZOK, and the same country songs over and over on KMPS, I tune to KJAQ (or even CKLG 96.9).

I think Click might flip sometime soon. Their ratings are not the best. If not for PPM being installed for Seattle market use, it would still be KWJZ - guaranteed.

Regarding any 93.3 format switch: Not. Gonna. Happen.

You don't blow up a 30+ year heritage station over ONE bad month.
 
Agree on KUBE, no chance. KBKS....maybe that's a dark horse....or maybe that goes more AC to directly attack KPLZ who is killing it for 25-54F. CC already has KJR, they could adjust to more classic rock to compete with KZOK. Warm could make adjustments, but that has yet to be seen. KJAQ is doing fine as an automated jukebox more or less and is just a revenue stream with minimal overhead at this point. 102.9 is a weak signal in the market, same as 104.9; it'd be tricky to use those signals for anything more than feeder stations (or simulcast KJR-AM again on one of them)

Now, here's another scenario. What if Sinclair deals out the radio side to Bonnevile or Hubbard....there's where you have some interesting dynamics in this market. With all the staff slashing, it wouldn't surprise me if that happened in the next year.

KISW does need a competitor, but who.....that's the big question.....KLCK? KBKS? Those are likely candidates, but it'll be a VERY expensive flip. And if you want to compete with KISW, they should rock a little harder and play uncensored cuts....I mean the male demo isn't going to bitch at the FCC. And get jocks who really want to push the boundaries, get in people's faces....like an old morning zoo.

Now I still haven't mentioned KMCQ or KNDD, it's hard to figure out what to do with both those stations. KMCQ needs to expand their playlist slightly so it's not so repetitive. KNDD appeals to the more hipster crowd and is kinda flat in the PPM....I would say mix in more of that classic Seattle sound with a bigger focus on Seattle itself, or just go full indie and make it a commercialized college radio...like a commercial KGRG.
 
couple things. I would never suggest anyone flip over a single bad book or even six months of bad books. In the case of KUBE they have been crushed for over a year 6a-7p by MOVIN, KISS and now HOT. By moving to 102.9 where 66% of their demo resides CC takes advantage of the heritage while taking 93.3 rock. Click is the obvious choice since it has no where to go and if it does better on the younger end in hurts movin and on the older end warm.

intrigued that Sinclair might sell to Hubbard or Bonneville. both have great hot-ac stations in their markets and news. For hubbard it is a no brainer. movin...star and warm win in the female demos, klck becomes the fm komo. Not bad. for bonneville, who also have hot-ac and news a no brainer. star adds a money winner to their lineup, komo becomes teh am simulcast to kiro fm and they rule the market in spoken word. what would they do with kvi, put ktth on the better signal?

One has to wonder is sinclair really wants to be in radio. I think they are a tv company with no radio except seattle.
 
Sinclair has to pay off the debt, they are not in the radio business and selling the cluster would raise some cash to do that. Sinclair doesn't even mention their name on the radio side when I tune in. No pride there. The old saying there are 3 owners of a new business, the old owners, the new ones and the bank is true.
 
There is little question that the former Fisher radio properties will be sold off. Contracts with Kent & Allen will be debated. Could be some lawsuits here. Oh, I would hate to be lawyer in this process, as the small print is usually too small for me to see. However, KPLZ is still a revenue producer, and KVI is well, KVI. Good luck to all my former friends at KPLZ and KVI. I'm sure it will work out for the best.

The FCC does only if some stupid politically correct soccer mom crowd of ingrates wants to bitch and moan, especially when they KNOW WELL IN ADVANCE that the station isn't their target demographic.

...yeah sad to hear that this is only phase one for the former Fisher radio group. I think Kent and Alan will stay as long as they can. KOMO also bills pretty well in this market too. I wonder if Paul Duckworth is sitting in his office going, "man, I came back to THIS?!?!" I'm not trying to knock him, he's a class act, but probably has to play the cards he's been dealt. Same with Kent, both PDs are victims of circumstance.

Goodbye locally owned radio, I pour one out for you on the ground.........damn you Telecomm '96

When it comes to Sinclair, I highly doubt they say, jeesh, we a TV company only. They are bottom line driven. As for Duckworth and Kent and Alan, why would they sweat anything at all? Agree that a station like click should go after the top male dogs. Why eat you own? I see that station as burnt toast right now. Time for a reboot. As for Hot, unless they plan on continuing without revenue, they'll fall like a boulder. Best thing thier comp should do is stay the course and keep powder dry til the Hot spot load starts. BTW, thanks for steering to a radio topic other than DXing!
 
If it were me... And I just won the Powerball...

I'd leave 106.1 alone.. I always perceived it as "The Bellevue Station".. Don't know why..

I'd buy 92.5, change the calls to KSWR and I'd let the air staff do their own thing.. Format = Rock

Mornings: Crow and West
Mid Days: Vanderpool
Afternoons: Slaton
Nights: Cathy Faulkner
Overnights: I'd track it because I'd own the place and could do whatever I wanted..

I'd hire the best sales execs in town and offer them 40% commission..

92.5 Rock would be nice. Kiss 106.1 should stay the same so that all those teenyboppers can hear "Blurred Lines", "Cups" and "Can't Hold Us" over and over and over and over and over....

Well it looks like KUBE has gotten rid of the JV show and has gone back to all local programming in the morning. Dj Supasam is now on Monday- Thurs 6-10 AM and Sir mix a lot is now doing mornings on Friday. Seems they must be panicking a little with Hot 103.7 soaring, The JV show was only on there for a little over a year. Wonder what there gonna do with KBKS...
 
KUBE has become such a yawn nowadays. Except for a few rap songs that are not on KBKS, they are a CARBON COPY of 106.1. Same songs, same variety, all that. And then KUBE and KQMV seem to love playing the same song at least twice a day - I'll hear, let's say "Blurred Lines" on 92.5, and then on 93.3, at the same time!

MOViN won't go. They've had quite a bit of success since "movin'" from Rhythmic AC.

Kiss is just like any other Top 40 nowadays. Of course they'll repeat songs. Yet, just a few years ago, I noticed a variety.

For guest, Kiss won't go. I'd be surprised if CC bought out Jackie & Bender's contract and cancelled them early. When was their last renewal? If anything, Now will go.
 
I just checked the March Seattle radio ratings, and its not looking good for KUBE. KHTP took a considerable slide, but i'm sure "HOT" is here to stay. As for KUBE, I think its probably time to tweak something. I agree on the fact that it would be a poor choice to blow up the entire urban top 40 format, but they need something to revitalize their format. They are sitting behind KPLU

Ironically, I think KHTP is performing just as well now as they used to when they were "The Mountain". I wont let my AAA musical taste influence my opinion here, though. ;)
 
The next few months may see some interesting shifts in the radio landscape but I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch just yet. Sinclair dumping radio in Sea has been bantered about since the day the deal went down and even prior. Still they do need to generate some $ and selling would be the fastest way to do so. Be curious to know if by waiting to unload the properties does that increase or decrease their value? Seattle is a unique market ( but that can be said about Detriot, which is VERY unique or SF or even Deluth for that matter ) Kent and Allen no matter how long in the teeth they are still have the cred and get the job done.

When K & A do sign off what a nail that will be in the coffin for Seattle radio. Who's left Delilah ( sorry she doesn't count ) Any other notable jocks still in the market?

I don't think any of the Sinclair radio properties will flip, but may get sold of eventually since Sinclair is not in the radio business. I think the radio formats in the area are stable, except for the new move-in 93.7. I think a new format is in their future. I'm still hoping for a Rhythmic/Jamin' Oldies format on that station :)
