WHO GAVE 'TLC SOME TLC?

I don't listen to WTLC-FM, but I can't miss how much they've improved in the ratings... Thoughts? What have they been doing differently?

Getting an Arbitron bonus for having non white people fill out diaries.

Diaries are weighted. 1 AfriAmerican diary equals 5 white diaries.

Kind of makes you wonder why they haven't been higher before.

Now, what's wrong with THAT picture?
And all that with a Class A signal...sounds like Arbitron's version of reverse discrimination.

TLC has had huge swings for years. Their listeners often fill diaries out saying they are listening all day, whether or not they are. That's why there's so much controversy about the PPM regarding urban formats. The PPM measures actual listening time.

Isn't that how they count the votes in Carson's district?

They also recently dumped Jazz. As you can see in cities where Jazz has become a past issue, the Urban AC's trend upwards.

This obviously was more helpful to the cluster at Radio One.

The only thing im extremely curious about is Radio Now sounds so much like Hot sometimes? I understand the Radio Now philosophy (wasnt that designed during the Emmis era)

The Old WYJZ format had a significant R & B influence and a strong African American composition....with Jazz gone there was an 80,000+ cume in flux.

I have never listened in the afternoon...interesting to think Indy's now #2 station has a syndicated AM show (Tom Joyner) - AND, a syndicated PM Drive Show (MoNique 3p7p).

Hard to stay LOCAL when your peak dayparts come from another locale. Nonetheless - kudo to WTLC....weighted diaries or not.
