Re: Who has the best Hiphop stations?

Well, I think we can easily rule Portland out of the possible answers.......

Personally for as little as I really listen to it, "Concrete Beats" on Muzak (channel 963 if you use/have access to DiSH Network) is one of the best I have listened to thus far.

(Hey, you didn't mention if the station had to specifically be terrestrial or satellite! Seems fair game to me ;o)

Z-93 Jamz has always been one of my personal favs. They SOUND like Charleston and are live and local. They play reggae every now and then. I take it WWWZ-FM is not a station you care for? If Hot 98-9 in Charleston were still around, they would definately overrule Z93Jamz. I am still baffled that Hot is gone.

Im originally from Chucktown and Z93 JAMZ was da issssh back in the day. They started slacking when they had no comp once RHYTHM 100.9 WPAL-FM signed off. CC brought rhythmic 94.3 THE BEAT which flipped to Urban POWER 94.3, but they never had the powers to give Z93 true competition. On the other hand, HOT 98.9 signed on and brought true heat to the 843. The music was always hot and they had pretty good jocks. Charlamagne(107.5 WBLS), Kelly Mac(STAR 99.7), DuDu Crew(95.7 THE BEAT), DJ B-Lord(HOT 103.9) and GentlEman George(BLAZIN 92.3) were once the all stars that rocked hcktown on HOT 98.9/WWBZ.

I've always liked H-town's 97.9 The Box. Debuet in 1991 as a urban contemporary, morphed into a rhythmic and had some bangin' stuff in the 90s. The original home for Swisha House/DJ Skrew before MTV ruined it. Power 93.3 and it's crappy signal can't hold up. "Can't stop, won't stop!"

Power 106.7 in San Antonio is a much better hip hop than 98.5 The Beat. Glad they flipped to Power from the horrible top 40 Z1067 two years ago.

my favorites are

1) Movin 99.7 (I live in Hayward, CA and it's my favorite!)
2) Sacramento's KSFM
3) Seattle's Movin 92.5 (listen online)
4) Portland's Movin 1075 (listen online)

LOL... None of those are Hip Hop stations... Movin 1075 portland doesnt even exist anymore, its actually Jammin 107.5 now, and actually is a Hip Hop station, KSFM is a Hip Hop station, all the rest are oldschool Dance-Rhythmic AC stations....lol ;D Not being mean, just informative. 8)

BTW, I used to live in Myrtle Beach, and I DXed Z93 Jamz alot, it was always pretty good, the former hot 98.9 came in good in the Grand Strand Area too, and 94.3 was a Dance Friiendly Rhythmic as 94.3 The Beat.... Coast 97.3 Wilmington was another favorite. Thankfully Myrtle Beach has a local rhythmic now, Cumulous finally flipped that conservative CHR Hot 100 to Hip Hop as Power 100, which was a good idea considering no one listened to Hot, even when I lived there 3 yrs ago. More people DXed Coast 97.3 and Z93 jamz than listened to hot 100.

Sorry!

Movin 99.7 plays new and old hip hop alot!

I meant Jammin 1075 (i sometimes still call it Movin)

Some of my favorites:

1. Hot 93.7 Hartford "Hotford", CT
2. 100.3 The Beat Philly
3. Hot 97 NYC (mostly older, I heard they are slipping lately)
4. Power 98 Charlotte, NC (this station is REALLY good)
5. Kiss-FM WKYS 93.9 Washington, DC
6. V-103 WVEE Atlanta, GA
7. 106 KMEL San Fran
8. Power 106 LA (it was good back in '99, not sure about now)

and those are the big players I've heard around the country.
