Who got the boot?

This is why I was never in favor of the merger. I knew XM would be taken apart by Sirius.

Agree with you on the first part. Disagree on the second...but only because, as Sirius subscriber, I feel like XM is the one taking apart Sirius. When I was kind of given the impression that the entities would be separate and still operate as is barring a few option changes that would give subscribers the chance to get content from the other service, I didn't think they'd replace one service's version of a format with the other service's version. Not really the same thing.

Oh well

that's a merger for you, though.

How is XM taking apart Sirius? Sirius' guy is the head man in change now and it seems right now that Sirius' shallower playlists and channel names are all over my XM receiver. Uncle Mel killed off a few channels and didn't bother to find replacements for them, probably because Sirius didn't have an equivalent that could be piped in for free.

If I wanted Sirius radio, I would have bought that instead of XM, which was a better product. Uncle Mel ruining a good product in XM by consolidation with a smaller (and some might say inferior) product will only speed his and the combined company's demise. At least I still have my Ipod.

I've been checking out the 70s and 80s decades channel and hearing more variety - lost 80s hit, etc. Sounds to me like as much as XM got Sirius-isez, Sirius also go XM-ixed.

I'm noticing the broader playlist, too, on the show tunes station I favor on Sirius. It picked up the XM name ''On Broadway'' and is playing titles I hadn't heard before on Sirius. Luckily the lone weekday DJ on Sirius, Seth Rudetsky, survived the consolidation. I appreciate the insight and humor he adds to the channel.

It's all a matter of perception. Mergers are about compromise. Subscribers on both sides lost out. I can't attest for every channel or the quality of the play lists because I've only had Sirius but as a subscriber, I saw a few channels that I listened to were taken away and replaced by XM channels just as you saw XM channels being booted for Sirius. And in some case, some channels were booted and not replaced with counterpart (i.e. Sirus Boombox..some of the hip hop channels, as I heard). So, again, it's all perception.

The merger came while both sides were evolving. Some channels were about to be dropped anyway.
I can't tell you how many times Sirius has polled me in the past year about my favorite channels.
I'm sure what you're seeing now is the culmination of that research project.
