WHO HAD THE BEST WHITNEY HOUSTON BREAKING COVERAGE / POST COVERAGE

When the news was breaking Saturday night I think MSNBC, CNN and HLN were all covering it.
Most were just repeating the same stuff over and over. Then I switched to Fox News and they
were actually doing a better job than anybody (I was shocked) as this didn't seem to be their
usual news story.

ABC did break into a Peanuts special in the East (briefly) - with an advisory to send the kids off for a moment. MT/PT were mostly into their news blocks when confirmation came. I had CNN on, and they confirmed the story at about 5:11 PM PT.

I'll give the nod to Facebook as it was the first I heard of it. I usually check Facebook periodically and the news feeds from KNBC and KFI (two locals I subscribe to) had the headline before they could put anything up on their respective websites (just a sentence with no link).

I used to check the trends on twitter but the Verizon STB widget has just gone to pot.

I did not see the special report from ABC, but an advisory to send children away for a moment is unusual, even if the program interrupted was an animated cartoon that appeals to folks of any age.

CNN covered it well. But how about local News outlets in la like KCBS2, KNX 1070, KCAL9 and other LA stations how was that handled.

Yeah, that's what we saw here, at about 7:15 p.m. CST. Assuming that reports of her death were given in PST, that would mean that I learned of her death slightly over an hour after she was pronounced dead.

HLN had no Coverage so didn't CBS or ABC.
Is that even a sentence?
Are you even capable of an on-topic reply? By the way, ABC HAD coverage, as was stated above. That's how I found out!

I saw it on CNN and Local News outlets in San Francisco but that was given during the 5pm and 6pm news.

Why would this news be considered "urgent" or "earth-shattering" and require the immediate attention of responsible news orgs?

Other than their historic competitive nature to out the story first I cannot think of another.

I thought KCAL (Los Angeles) did a good job on coverage, as they went wall-to-wall since they have a primetime newscast seven nights a week. They even brought in DJs from its CBS radio sisters (KRTH, KAMP, and KTWV) to give their perspectives on Whitney Houston's career and life. I first saw the breaking news from L.A. Times, from their breaking news alerts I get via e-mail.

Evidently no other "urgency" other than to get the story out first. Since we were watching ABC at the time, I will comment on their coverage. Seems that it would have been sufficient to simply run a crawl across the bottom of the screen. No need to break in and interrupt a Charlie Brown special (even if it is a rerun), but as evidenced by Jake Tapper's comments, he was also breaking in on network news on the west coast.
