Who has better TV San antonio or Houston?

The place where I'm at I'll have a choice. I got a new antenna that I'll be putting up in the next month. Nice thing is about it out in Southern Lavaca county, you can choose which one to watch. I like San antonio news a lot, but which city has better over all TV? I could also get Victoria, but really the only 2 channels there would be ABC and FOX.

It all depends on who you ask. Those in San Antonio are going to tell you that they have better overall tv, us in Houston are going to say it's us. Look at it this way, in Houston on Channel 13, you can watch the exact same newscasters today, that our parents watched 40 years ago. What other market can say that?

Thats pretty neat. How often do they talk about the Victoria area though durring the weather? Thats the main thing I watch in news. The thing I noticed the most about San antonio TV is that they seem to do more coverage out towards Lavaca county direction than Houston.

Lavaca county is technically in the SA market, so it's not mentioned on Houston TV much at all. Actually, I don't think they've covered anything west of Katy since Marvin Zindler found out about the "bawdy house" many years ago. ;D

I'll give it to houston, they have their own version of "Gods Waiting Room" at Ch. 13. I think its time we set up the KTRK 13 deathpool and put some money down on whos gonna die first. My 20 bucks is on Marvin The Cryptkeeper, I think he's already dead but is being kept alive by some behind the scenes gadgetry.

Now that's tasteless. But funny as hell.

"...MARVIN Zindler...EYE-witness NEWS."

"...(deadpan) Thank you, Marvin."

Dave Ward is SO cool.

I may half to do the rotator thing! Nice thing is though about my setup, I got a tool I can just use it to turn the pole the other way if I need to.

Isnt dave ward rounding the corner on 200 himself, I think he covered both Lewis And Clarks expedition and the Battle of 1812 as a cub reporter ;)

I think they're vampires.
Dave Ward was in a serious car wreck a few years ago and survived (they interviewed him in the hospital room and he didn't have a hair out of place).
Shara Fryer and Zindler are cancer survivors.
Bob Allen hasn't aged in 25 years.
Wayce Dolcefino had a stroke of some kind.
Melanie Lawson has MS.

Ghouls, all of them are bloodsucking ghouls...They harvest interns at ABC 13 and suck their youth out of them. ;)

Naw seriously, I think they all made the same pact dick clark did with the devil...

Lubbock TV News IS pretty bad. But you also have to consider, most of those TV stations are also "training grounds" for many of the reporters fresh out of Texas Tech or still attending Texas Tech.

I still can't get over the fact that Channel 13 and Channel 28 are owned by the same company now.

Geesh, what happened to competition? Oh, that's right, competition is a bad thing.............. :)

Now one corporation just gets greedy and rich.

Wasn't AT&T supposed to be broken up a few years ago due to its monopoly?

All the "Baby Bells" have almost all gotten back together and changed their name from SBC to AT&T.

What a joke!!

Thats one thing I never understood though is how San antonio got it in the Market, when you can recieve most all Houston FM stations & Tv stations, but you cant get San antonio stations only am, not FM.

I live in Houston, but spend a lot of time in the SA market. I didn't know that there were news anchors in SA. All I ever see are car dealership pitchmen during their newscasts. In Houston, consistency rules. That's why you are constantly talking about the ancient sages at Channel 13. For those of you that don't know, Marvin has a lifetime million dollar per year contract. He was worth a couple of rating points in most demographics when they made the contract and believe it or not is still worth a point or two now in today's 6000 channel/Internet marketplace. Bottom-line, Houston is far superior as to news quality, but then it's market #9 vs. market #30 something. Naturally, the better talent will be in the top 10 market. With that said, Houston still has amateurville. Just watch the revolving anchor table at KPRC Channel 2 and the KRIV Channel 26 amateur hour at 9P every night.

It was an amazing figure back then and still is, and you're right about what Zindler is worth to the station. Yes, consistency is what sets KTRK apart, from the familiar faces and sensationalism, to the brash and tenacious Wayne Dolcefino, to Marvin's tinted glasses and the incredibly cheesy jingle, "Slime in the Ice Machine." It's hokey but it works, just as it has for decades. There's nothing like Channel 13 news, and for many Houstonians it's the only thing. I agree with your comments about Fox 26 and "Local 2." They just don't get it, and both can be so bad it's downright embarassing.

I think Marvin Zindler's last job was as a waiter at the Last Supper...

where he uncovered SSSSLLLLIIIIMMMMMEEEE on the chalice.

HOUSTON OR SAN ANTONIO?
Houston. Having seen both, and having lived in san Antonio. Houston has journalism. San Antonio has the lowest common denominator equal to the National Enquirer, Weekly World news and People magazine. If there is a dirty bomb going off in DC and a bar fight on SA' s westside. They will lead with the bar fight.

One more area where Houston TV wins may be most unusual names. From a reader's question in Ken Hoffman's column: Have you seen CW39's new weather guy? His name is Casanova Nurse and, as Dave Barry would say, I'm not making that up.

It's for real. Casanova the weather guy came to KHCW after a stint at the NBC affiliate in Tallahassee FL.

I agree with you. Being a native San Antonian and a constant commuter to Houston, I would say Houston TV is classier, has better graphics and newsrooms than San Antonio. Heck, look at KSAT; the news is done in front of a blue screen! Not to mention the cheesy 90s dance jingles that sound like 2Unlimited's Get Ready for This. they recycled from the 90s. Most of the anchors are cheesy as well and say some of the lamest jokes around. But then again, that's San Antonio for you; most live and strive off of National Enquirer-esque news. I take Houston news a lot more seriously. Plus I love watching the live car chases down I-45 in the afternoon!
