Who has the best processing in The Metroplex?

WBAP still sounds great to me - bright and clear. I think the best AM audio quality on the air. They are still broadcasting wideband audio and C-QUAM stereo as of this moment anyway. And any of the other AMs like KSKY that have not degraded their audio with IBOC. FM... hard to say. KNTU sounds pretty darned good. A couple of the FMs with "HD" actually sound better in analog than "HD".

Well, it's not in the metroplex but KITY 102.9 in Llano had the most amazing sound. I had it on for a four day weekend, even though it's an oldies station (I'm an AM talkie listener). I hope someone on the board with a better ear happens to be traveling in the hill country will give it a listen and post some more intelligent feedback.

I can only judge on my car radio since that's where 90% of my listening occurs.
But my top 5 would be KZPS, KSKY, WBAP (bring up the level just a bit) WRR and KLUV (still using the classic Optimod 8100 on the analog side).

I haven’t been over there in a while to ‘buttonpunch’ the dial but I’ll give kudos to 102.9 who back in the mid-late 80’s had the best sound in town, moderately processed using analog processing. I think the CE at the time was John Adcock.

Personally, I believe things went downhill with the first generation of digital processors, but as they improve with new models the grunge is falling away (if adjusted sanely)

You haven't been here in a while. They, along with the Bone, and followed
on the heels by Jack FM, IMO, have some of the worse processing in town.
Muddy, pumping, different volume levels, sometimes distortion. Sounds
terrible. Like a bad MP3. Probably a product of digital processing and HD.
I've been wondering if all the tinkering for HD leads to bad analog output.
I'm no engineer whatsoever, but it does make me wonder....

The engineers need to realize not everyone has an HD radio, or desires one
(if that is indeed what is affecting the current signals).

I had an engineer tell me one time that the best processing is NO
processing at all (flat audio). Send out a signal and let the LISTENER
tweak it to THEIR taste. Don't do it for them.

I tend to agree.

As do I. I can understand why some form of limiting on the analog signal is needed, with respect to adjacent channels. But these loudness wars are rather fatiguing. :p

I agree, FLAT is best but then again not everyone has a Optimod on their stereo :D
