Who is building?

Anyone know who belongs to the shinny new tall tower on the hill just northwest of the Jct. of Highway's 41 and 33 near the city of Avenal, CA? No paint on it as of yet. Or has it been there for a long time and I just didn't notice it till today.

Just a quick check on Radio-locator shows Family radio, KFRP, on 90.7 at that location. Shows the antenna to be just about 100 feet above ground and 3378 ft above sea level.

There is no "peak" or Tower anywhere close to Highway 33 and 41 and Avenal that is 3,378 ft in above sea level, Maybe more like 1200 ft, radio-locator is wrong on that one.

An FCC search shows three CP's in that area. Wow. KZAV and KAAX licensed to Avenal, and KNGS licensed to Coalinga. Plus there should be another one on the air (a Christian station on 89.9) from a tower located very close to the junction of I-5 and 41.

This new tower can be seen briefly after turning west onto highway 41 from highway 33 southbound. Then it is obscured from view behind hills to the south of it. It doesn't have any lighting turned on yet either as of thursday evening. From that location it would serve the city of Avenal quite well. Thanks for the info guys. I'll be back by there again this early monday morning and will look again for any lighting on the tower. Great haat for this one.

Its one of 3 cellphone towers in the area of the 41 and 33. What else would it be ??? There are no other FM stations within the area. KAAX & KNGS are on top of Kettleman Ridge. The Kettleman City educational is on a cellphone tower on the east side of Kettleman Ridge. The NEW avenal Educational is located just outside of downtown Avenal. Any other area is on BLM or Oil Company land. There is a new Cellphone / two-way tower on the hill -- for the Avenal State Prison But no room for another Broadcast tower.

That new tower sure does gleem in the early morning sun! Are you sure you don't know who it belongs to? It's brand new and it's not a cellphone tower cause it's straight as an arrow. Is it KNGS?

KNGS 100.1 is just east of Avenal in the hills near highway 269 and I-5 to the east of that site. way north of Highway 41 and 46.

What needs to happen is for someone that reads these boards that resides in the area to take a drive south of Avenal on Highway 33 and then turn onto highway 41 west for about two miles max and keep watching the right side of the highway over to the northwest and this tower will be looking you right in the eye on a ridge that has been graded flat. You can't miss it! Especially in the early morning sun cause it gleems in the sunlight! Gee! Where is Scott Flybush when you need him? This tower is not lighted at night either, how are they getting away with that?

Guess What ?? Its a Cellphone Tower. New Cingular Wireless -- KNKN-462 - located at 42791 Hwy 41 -- 35 - 51 - 00 N by 120 - 04 - 14 W. A 150 foot tower on a hilltop + 1030 feet AMSL. NO Broadcast stations within 10 miles. Sorry. And where is that Scott Fybush -- when you need him ??

Ah...the one without an erroneous "L" in his last name? :)

The answer is: "long overdue for a visit to Fresno and central California..."
