Who is Kenny?

A DJ on my favorite classic country station said a song by Kenny was coming up. A few minutes later "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers was played.

Now on a "new country" station I suppose a DJ could also get away with just saying Kenny and that would be Kenny Chesney. A year ago that same classic country station might have played him, but I don't think it does now. I do remember hearing him on one classic country station before anyone had ever heard of him, which is weird.
