Who is LIVE in the snow?

With probably the worst snowstorm of the season going on right now...

Which radio stations are LIVE and giving updates? Did any stations decide to keep their pre-recorded items?

So far I just put 'TAM on and Bob Becker is live talking about the weather.

You might check out 1590 WAKR. Too bad they don't have a live stream.

I'll be here until about 6pm or so. I'm giving updates and closings every once in a while...

Danny! Glad to see you're still around. ;D

WHBC/1480 went wall-to-wall with storm coverage on Friday afternoon, evening, and pre-empted Fox Sports (thank god!) for two hours. I heard some of the news staff doing live reports "from the road". Nice.
Jim Albright and company also had things covered this morning with cancellations and road conditions.

That having been said, it's too bad NextMedia doesn't see fit to man 'HBC's newsroom after noon on the weekends. After all, we *are* talking about a news/talk station, right? What's up with that?

Friday was a bad day, but Saturday was awful around here.

Here's a breakdown on how Saturday Morning sounded:

WTAM - Live w/Becker
WMVX,WMMS,WQAL, WGAR, WMJI --Voice tracked or best ofs with ocassional weather thrown in
WONE - Best of Morning show with what sounded like prerecorded weather
WQMX - Live Local
WKDD - Best of Morning show with what sounded like live updates on weather/traffic
WNIR - Live local and virtually NOTHING about the weather. Stan was yucking it up.
WHLO - gardening show/home improvement w/Live local updates
WAKR - gardening show/home improvement w/live local updates
WAPS - Live and Local
WHBC-FM No mention of weather all at. Music and Sweepers only, sometimes from a song right into spots, this continued in middays.
WHBC-AM joined the party late.
WHOF- Live local, the weekday morning show was on live, heard Gary on well after noon.
WZKL- Live local

Here's what I heard late into the afternoon... I didn't check everyone, but here's who I DID check out...

WTAM: ran Cavs game, but was live after that
WAKS: voicetracked
WKDD: heard local talent on in the afternoon with updated reports
WMVX: voicetracked
WQAL: was live with
WGAR: voicetracked

From what it sounds like, it's what we would expect from each station. With probably the worst snowstorm in 30 years, there were stations with tracked voices. Wow...

Heh. Wonder how many people will still refer to WDJQ as WZKL... old habits are hard to break. :)

Height of irony: WKNR also was live starting at 8am -- with Greg Brinda live from Winterhaven, Florida. (Bah!)

And I'm sure if the Cavs game was postponed (which it SHOULD have been, IMHO) WTAM would've had some more local coverage. Even if that meant no Mutual Fund Crap show and that loser French guy... :p

John Gorman has a great comment on the snow coverage in Cleveland...or lackthereof.

John's praise of WDLW is very much deserved. The owners, Doug and Lorie Wilber (the callsign is a total coincidence; it was a west-side reflection of WELW, which 1380 once simulcast back in 1997) totally rehabilitated the station when they took it over in 2002. And they are live-and-local for much of the day, every day.

I didn't listen to Triv at all, but since he never has cared about important stuff like traffic and weather reports, his "nothing" comments about the storm really signifies how much he doesn't care. If it was an act (as many of us would attest to, including myself) he should've broken out of the act and pretended to care about people's lives. Thank God no one was killed.

It should have been put in a context Triv could have understood....The storm could have stopped all vehicles in their tracks and no FOOD would have been able to get to the stores and the stores would have to close down. Then Triv would have considered it a major natural catastrophe, would have been having updates every 30 seconds, calling on President Bush to bring back the army from Afghanistan & Iraq to deal with this Mother Nature terrorist and having the governor activate the Ohio National Guard to arrange snack drops to the studio to make sure he didn't run out of Cheetos & Oreos.

Too bad Triv wasn't expecting Jesus from Mallorca.

like dilbert has been explaining to his pointy haired boss, that's pronounced HAY-SOOS. with all that he feeds triv, i'm surprised he hasn't tried out for ironchef on foodnetwork. if i'm driving while triv is sampling HAY-SOOS delicacies, i get hungry. lol. david9396 formerly david5258

It's also pronounced MY-ORKA.

And the clams casino is phoenominal. ;D

WTAM's studios once were right next to Mallorca's in the Western Reserve Building. So yeah... that does explain everything. :D
