who is live or Memorex?

Sorry, nobody can answer, they are busy VTing their shows from another city and also in 19 different markets and having to look up weather, sports scores, news, etc.in each of those markets so they can sound local. ;)

the local jock gets information the same way the out of market jock does which is on the internet. imo the listener does not care that the jock is in their city. a good jock beats a local jock any day

IF they're better.
I'm sure we all know of examples where a good local jock was replaced with an average VT for cost purposes.
Tracked jocks are NOT always better. They ARE always cheaper.

I agree IF

Agree as well. Some VTs do a good job of also sounding local, but then there's ones where it's obvious (mispronouncing street names or any other local landmarks does not look good, for instance).

I was just kind of curious since I've only been back in South Carolina for good just a few months. Every station I listen to just seems to be disconnected from the community yet does very good in the ratings.

happens on live tv from reporters not from the area and misspellings in the newspapers. welcome to the media

Man The Weather Channel use to be the world's worst back in the 1980's The storm will come to shore near E dust O island or there will be a cool front hanging in Myrtle Beach North Carolina and of course the storm will come to shore at Bo ford South Carolina. At least they have learned how to pronounce names or where some places are really located here in South Carolina. Myrtle Beach North Carolina, geeeeese and they did it many times not just once or twice back then. Talk about looking or sounding like a real nut.

I know time moves on and that part I totally understand, but has the radio groups in Columbia got so cheap as to even put local talent on. There is still JR on WCOS in the mornings, Brent & Jodi on B106 along with Tony in the afternoons. I guess it is easier to hook the dish up and just run syndi or VT now a days. I am still re-learning the Columbia market after being gone for 12 years. Like I say it is amazing how little connection a lot of the stations seems to have yet they do good. I am not sure if listeners don't care or if most just think that is the only listening option are out there. I would think that later part would not be the case.

Not just easier Carroll, cheaper too
The continuing effort to save money has lessened the quality to the point that I think you're right.
Listeners just don't care anymore. I don't know, maybe they never did.
But nowadays, mispronounced names, outdated copy, dead air - it's become the norm in all markets. Even Top 10

cheaper is true. i spent all this money on technology and advertising revenues are down in a tough economy. i am going to use this technology to my advantage. happens in business everyday.
