Who is the new WNAK morning person?

I just heard Paul Vito mention an "Ellen" or some such name. I'm not up that early, but am curious as to who it might be. Was Brad Patton doing mornings? Or was he just filling in for a while?

Didn't Harry West have an interview for that job a few months back. Maybe NAK didn't want to pay what Harry would be asking or possibly they thought he was a little up in age. Harry has got to be a least in his mid 60s, maybe older?

WNAK started preliminary recruiting for a morning talent after Terry retired because of his health. They made weak overtures to a lot of well-known radio people(both past and present), then simply never bothered to so much as even call them back. My guess? They ain't got squat to pay, so no one worthwhile(unless they're desperate)is interested. Harry, I'd guess, is somewhere between 70-74.

WNAK is a 1kw daytimer. This is 2007 and the market is saturated with FMs. You could put Jesus in morning drive and even if he worked for free what would the payback be?

I've gone ahead and made the blunt statement here before that AM is dead, but some folks seem to think it can reinvent itself. Look, I have no doubt format-wise it could happen, but what do you propose could reinvent that garbage sound every single AM has? I tried WARM this past week...you must be kidding, who would want to listen to hissing, popping, and a signal that sounds like a CB radio? And just so you'll know, I spent most of lengthy radio career on the AM band - it sounded like crap then, it sounds like it now.

Does WNAK simulcast with their FM in am drive?

The sad part is, there was a time frame when Neilson could have applied for a license modification to increase power to 50 Kw. At that time, 730 kc was a clear channel frequency. You know what is said about hindsight...

Yes, 730 kc is a clear channel...for Canada and Mexico. If WNAK did increase its power to 50 kW, it still would have had to leave the air at sundown. They have to protect CKAC, a 50 kW station in Montreal. During critical hours, I can often hear CKAC's French-language talk programming under WNAK.

The North American Regional Broadcasting Agreement was signed in 1941 and updated in the 1950s. It classifies AM frequencies as local, regional, or clear channels. The clear channels were divided among the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, and Cuba. Since Castro disregarded this agreement, our FCC has licensed a lot of stations on the U.S. / Cuban shared clear channel of 640 kc. The U.S. primary station was and still is KFI in Los Angeles. The Cuban primary station was CMQ, now CMBC.

An update to the agreement some years ago allowed stations on regional channels to increase power to up to 50 kW. WADO, a regional station on 1280 kc in New York City, went to 50 kW daytime and clobbered WFBS during critical hours.

Somebody running a Norelco electric razor 5 blocks from their tower could have clobbered WFBS at any time of the day, their signal was so poor.

I am guessing it is Ellen O'Brien on WNAK. She is voicetracking after 6pm on 94.3
