I know Tracy Austin isn't in houston anymore, but she is definitely one of the NICEST pd's that I've ever talked to.

I'd start my list with Chuck Tiller.

Define Nice...

The one that plays your songs? The one who talks to you on the phone or doesn't blow you off when you come to one of their remotes?

There are lots of ways to be "nice"

Thank you Chuck, for your vote. ;)

Took, that's something I'd expect from a neophyte, not a seasoned pro like you!!!? I had the pleasure of working with Chuck years ago, and he's an OK guy. (Check out http://chucktiller.com/. He doesn't look like me at all.)

Pam Ivey??? hahahahaha....

... you must be somebody with power

I have no prob with Chuck. Nice gyu. Good Talent. Couldn't resist. ;)

Thank you JD. JD and I worked together at KKTL 97Talk-FM (now KTHT Country Legends 97.1) and KKHT 106.9 in 1998 and 1999. JD was once in charge of KMSC (now KMJQ Majic 102.1) back in the late 60's early 70's, somewhere around that timeframe. When I met JD, he was doing board op work.

I know some of you can relate to this: have you ever heard somebody with pipes, you wish you had? JD is one of those cats. When he came to KKHT, they couldn't wait to get his voice on the air. They utilized him every chance they got. I sound like a squeaky mouse compared to JD.

Does nice mean sleeping with several of your female listeners? Than Whip was very nice

man, I always wondered how he got to do afternoons?

are there any "nice" djs left in Houston?

;D

Gosh. I’ve seen so many names bantered around for this dubious, albeit worthless honor. Yet very little criteria are expressed other than being “nice.” So since there is little to lose I will nominate myself as the nicest DJ in Houston. I was nice to the checkout person at the HEB today. I was also nice to girl at the McDonald’s Drive-thru window even though she screwed up my #1 with no pickles order. And I'm even nicer today than I was when I worked with Pam whats-her-name. Who wouldn't be! Hey Pam...why the long face? Worry not. You're sure to win the Back Stabber nomination when it comes out.

Colonel St. James is also one heck of a nice guy and he is charming on the phone! You rock Colonel!

Dave, you were nice to me on the phone yesterday. I'm sure that qualifies. Kidding aside, it's really subjective. You either like somebody or you don't.

A few years ago, I went to work at a station where the morning show host/program director had a reputation of being a complete jerk. Many told me he was a jerk. I never had a cross word with the guy. He was always cordial with me.

Hey Chuck! I have to nominate you for the title. It was great talking to you yesterday. You inspired me even more to keep forging along with DXSRADIO.COM. Best of luck on your gig and I hope we have the opportunity to work together one day. Radio is losing the very things that once made it great: Personality and nice guys!

Chuck is definitely one of the tops. My vote would be "Funky" and now "Brother" Larry Jones at Praise 92.1. I just hate he went back to Radio One, after they screwed him over, by dumping him on KMJQ for Tom Joyner's stale program. But, I'm sure now that Larry's playing Gospel music, that he has "forgiven" them. Also, JJ Williams, who used to do overnights at KMJQ, and now does morning at KWWJ-AM (Gospel), is also a very nice man.

Lesley T. Travis also seemed very nice when I met her. Is she still at KILT?

Yes, I am still at KILT. I do the Texas Music Show for them on Sunday nights from 7-12.

I always triy to be nice for many reasons -
1) It's the right thing to do. I expect callers and listeners to be nice to me too.
2) You're on the radio, you ain't special. It's just a job.
3) One day we're all gonna be unemployed and no one wants to be labeled with the rep as a bitch or prima dona.
4) I get off the air at midnight and don't want some po'd listener waiting for me in the parking garage!

Chuck Tiller is a doll. Always in a good mood. R B McEntire doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Tom Fontaine is as friendly at remotes with listeners as he is at the studio. I kinda helped raise him, so I'm kinda proud! Obviously I'm limited to KILT and former KIKK jocks in the Houston market but I found KSTAR's Larry Galla was also as gentlemanly as any man I'd ever encountered in radio or not.

Okay, I guess I know where me & H&H stand with you Leslie. ::)

Ok Rowdy you're a nice guy. Pass me the Brisket!

Yes there are just plain jerks, mean-spirited people but in a world and especially our industry RADIO is so competitive naturally nice people can turn into Jaded, Aggressive Nasty People. THAT'S unfortunate. I've seen too many nice guys turned into jealously crazy people over the years because of the way the business is. If you don't have a strong family to fall back on you can turn ugly, very ugly.

Ha! I can honestly say I know of no KILT jock current or previous that ever was anything but "nice". Not only nice to listeners, but co-workers, too - no matter what department or level of experience.

Actually when I first came to Houston back in 1990 I was a young, green, wide eyed fool from market 15,000. Both H&H went out of their way to introduce themselves and tell me if I had any questions not to hesitate to ask either of them.

I had been told that major market talent - specifically drive talent - would eat me alive. That didn't happen.

I've been told that the KILT family (specifically the one from the Rick Candea/Debbie Brazier days) I've been fortunate to be a part of nearly 17 years is very atypical.Perhaps that's why so many of the KILT jocks have been mentioned here.

And you know I love ya, Rowdy!
