Who is this DAN, Countdown?

This morning between 5 and 6 AM Eastern, on the AM dial, fading in and out, I get this very unusual talk program. The host was "Dan". I think he was calling his program "Countdown". I thought I heard the call letters WENY. So maybe I got a grave-yarder on 1230 in North Georgia transmitting from Elmira, N.Y. ?

Things that make you go Hmmmmmmm.

This guy was doing a talk show like you might try to have a blitz discussion of a 9th grade civics class. He would take 10 to 20 calls where the caller was to give a suggestion to improve the economy. Some would try to rail against one party or another. No, Simple answer: what would YOU do to improve the economy.

Then he would take off on another "listener assignment".

Can some one identify this broadcaster for me? (It WAS NOT a sports show which is what pops up if I do a Google search for Countdown.

O.K. It's daylight and can zero in a bit better now. I was listening on an analog tuning Walkman pocket radio where the dial does not give a lot of help. Now that I am up, I have been listening to the fading in and out of stations as the skyway goes a bit nuts.

The station is NOT WENY but probably WTNI which is 1640 out of Biloxi.

Talk Radio Countdown appears to be something on an ABC satellite which sounds right because the host was talking calls from around the country.

Website Doesn't mention a "Dan" but that's o.k.... I didn't have much else right. ;D

The WTNI website shows that this program is carried on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

GRC, You might be hearing "The Talkradio Countdown Show" which is hosted by Doug Stephans who also hosts "Doug
Stephans Good Day" and is syndicated by Radio America. The countdown show runs from 4AM-6AM ET Saturday and Sunday.
Here is a link to his website www.radioamerica.org/PRG_countdown.htm I know you said Dan, but this sounds like what you
were probably hearing, and it's funny that you said you thought it was on 1230 AM, because here in Chicago I've heard the
show on WJOB 1230 AM, just over the state line in Hammond, In.

I hope this helps,

I think you are right, TR1992. After I posted, I continue to search the net and found the same thing you found. It appears that part of the format of The Talk Show Countdown is to play back samples from talk shows around the country.

I was drifting in and out of sleep when I heard the program I described, and my assumption is that they were showcasing a program hosted by Dan somebody from somewhere. If that is the case, I want to track down this show by Dan and get a bigger sample of it. It was different. I don't know that I am ready to say: "We need to take lessons from Dan!" but I want another helping.

At first glance I didn't find an easy "e-mail us here" link on Doug Stephan's website, but I assume I WILL find it. ::)
